Demo Day

HH Not sure where your nearest Mizuno fitter would be but there is one in New Malden (A3) and I'm wondering if you could get a fitting there and a second opinion. I know world of golf is where HTL got his mizzy's from

If I was going to buy now. I would get a second opinion. It's a lot of money to risk getting it wrong. I can't help but think that The Belfry would be the place to go.

However I do feel slighty guilty trying this gear when I'm not in an immediate position to buy. In the past when I've done this kind of thing. I've always gone back to buy the goods from the guys that looked after me when I was trying and not buying.

Coming from a retail background, it's what I call 'investing in customers' or if you prefer in modern vulgarisums 'grooming'.

Am I wrong, but isn't the Mizzy National fitting centre just near Leatherhead? I know you're (thinking?) of the GM Belfry trip but Leatherhead is surely nearer if you ever get seriously near to a purchasing prospect?

I've got to be honest, my fitting session with Mizuno at New Malden couldn't have been better.
I knew I wanted Mizuno irons, but couldn't decide between the MX200's or the MP52's.
A stint at hitting each one on our local driving range saw me hitting the 200's a little more consistently, and I was sure that it was these I needed, but kept getting niggling doubts as I really liked the look of the 52's too.
I explained this to the guy at the fitting centre and he was only too happy for me to try both irons on the range. The stats that were obtained confirmed that the MX200's were more suited to me, so I quickly discounted the 52's and we concentrated on the best shafts for me. Once again, he took his time letting me try different shaft variations until we confirmed that the Nippon were the way to go. Much better shot dispertion and less unwanted spin.
The whole session was carried out with no pressure on me whatsoever to buy any particular club, it was completely free of charge, and I got a couple of nice "freebies" thrown in for good measure. He gave me a written spec sheet of exactly what he thought I needed, and followed this up with a confirmation email the following day. I was free to buy the clubs from where I wanted, more importantly, WHEN I wanted.
If you have made your mind up that it is Mizuno irons you want, then I can thoroughly recommend the guys at New Malden. Obviously, if you are still undecided on brands then The Belfry would be the better option as they are not solely Mizuno.

The national fitting centre use to be in Leatherhead, it moved to New Malden about 6 month ago.

The new malden range does kick ass, I use to spend half my life there, now just spend half my wages every month.

How come it was free if you didn't buy anything ?

I have just been fitted for a set of MX-200's, they arrive next week.

I went to one of my local pros, who fits for most brands so there was no pressure on a specific brand of clubs. It took 2 sessions to fit me though, as the 1st session it was like I had never played golf before and was shanking everything!
Fair play to the pro, he gave me 4 different clubs to take away and get a feel for, TM tour burner, Callaway X22 tour, Mizuno Mx-200 and MP-52's.

I spent a good couple of hours and 4 buckets of balls with all of the clubs and the 200's just felt right, although I was hitting a bit too much of a draw.

On the second session, we went back to the range and he agreed the 200's were leagues apart for me compared to the others and into the fitting centre we went. I tried standard lie and loft and was hitting it a little out of the heel. Changed to a 1/2" longer shaft, 2 degrees upright and flushed every shot. Back to the range, yep, worked as it should do! Very happy with the service from Simon, yet again and even a little discount and a wedge too!
