After doing a lot of studying, research and gaining qualifications in nutrition I would like to talk about dehydration. I am absolutely astounded by the amount of people who simply do not drink anywhere near enough water on the golf course and then wonder why their game takes a turn for the worst over the last 6 holes.

If anyone would like to learn more or has any questions about how food and drink on the course can dramatically improve consistency throughout a round of golf then please reply to this thread and I will do my best to help.

Thanks

Would the best advice just to drink more throughout your round, say at least a litre or maybe 2 if its warm. There are many drinks with electrolytes out there and also many brands that help. Pair this with some fruit and nuts etc in yourt round and hey presto, good to go.

I also feel for the majority of people improved consistency lies with ability rather than hydration.. DIscuss

I've bought it up before and it seems most people are bear grylls and can survive without food and drink on the course as its a round of golf not track and field.

By the way I understand the importance of nutrition in sport.

Having played in hotter climes for the last few years fully understand the need to keep fluid levels up . Here at this time of year drinking just the half a litre of water but will go up no doubt as the temp does, fingers crossed.

It's true, I've yet to see a dead or unconscious golfer on the back 9 ;)

Is this really a thread. Its a four hour round in 15 degree heat. The guys in afghan would fall out their chairs reading this. Drink when your thirsty plane and simple. thirst is a delayed reflex is rubbish. The foreign legion have simple approach. Drink when your thirsty and eat when you are hungry

Whilst the OP is a nonsense (just drink more water) - your approach is too simplistic, if you are thirsty you are already dehydrated and will start to make wrong decisions and have lessened physical ability.....

Its not my approach its the approach of many special opps teams around the world. There is no proof that when your thirsty its too late.

But to be fair we arent special ops........alot of special ops guys will eat local wildlife when theyre on ops, but ive never been tempted to snack on a rabbit which ive seen on the golf course

What i'm saying is if hydration was sooooo important then wouldnt it be of the highest priority to a person that uses their concentration and descision making as their key weapon. Hydration research has recently taken a massive change of direction.

I think the main reason special ops wait till they are thirsty is all down to load carrying opportunity to replenish supplies and stamina. Also it all depends on the given situation. Many teams from all services will have a wet at any opportunity and given the large amount of camelbacks now in service across the services gives the indication that drinking regular and keeping hydrated is better.

No one said it is too late, just that the beginning of dehydration has set in when your brain is telling you that you need water. There have been many studies which prove that decisions are less than perfect are judgement can be clouded and focus lessened when even slightly dehydrated, also the same studies say that drinking regularly prevents this happening.

Also how many of us are in active service on the golf course. ;)
