Considering Bobby Charlton won the lifetime achievement only two years ago. I wonder, has David Beckham warranted the same accolade at only 35, hardly a lifetime. IMO, Charlton achieved much, much more when superstardom wasn’t really his personal goal.

I Think its refreshing that someone at such a young age who achieved so much, and now has been recognised,he is an inspiration to so many young and old.His bounce back ability when it seemed like his career was over is commendable.Ferguson, maclaren and cappelo at real madrid tried to wreck his career but he showed them all what a great character he has,imo well deserved.Of course Ferguson was responsible for making him world class and keeping his feet on the ground, but making him leave utd broke his heart.

Beckham has received the award way, way, way too early in his life.
Christ! They'll be putting him out to pasture next.
Charlton, Bryan Robson graciously and humbly took their awards well into their lives. Robson notably was deeply humbled and appreciative of his award.
Good luck to Becks, but it also seems such another photo opportunity for his bloody wife!!!

I bet Sir Bobby Charlton was chuffin' livid as he only got his 2 years ago. Beckham got it by hype and NOT merit. He is a great bloke but it could have waited 10 years.

I guess Tom Daly will get it next year FFS give me strength.

It's a mockery but it's what sells. Just as autobiographies by Cheryl Cole, JLS, Clarkson etc are a mockery - famous for being 'famous' - and not even for the 15 minutes.

To be fair to Beckham its not his fault that the BBC have given this award to him far to early. I thought he looked a bit embarrassed by it all, and to donate the award to our armed forces I thought was brilliant.

As for the life achievement award surely someone like Sir Frank Williams who won the Helen Rollason award would have been more fitting.

We have lots of sports people who would have deserved this award and have contributed to sport longer than DB has been alive. Lifetime awards should be given to people who have spent a lifetime in a sport. Beckham has been in this game for 20 years, hardly a lifetime. And did anyone notice VB scoping for the cameras to make sure they caught her shedding tears of joy ??? BINT !!!!!!

If he does not go into management his football career is over, why wait till he is an old man, and you cannot say the award was unpopular his ovation lasted at least 10 times the lenth of the spoty winner, who I still cannot figure out why he won.

Yes, Beckham really deserves this...! For what exactly?

Being the worst midfielder in the championship winning Man Ure midfield?

Maybe it is for the international honours he helped England to win? Oh no, hang on....

Basically, he won this award so that the show would receive higher viewer ratings and it is as simple as that. He is a good looking bloke with a decent right foot and that is about it but the British public lap it up for some reason. I don't watch the programme myself as I think it is absolute garbage.

That said, AP McCoy is a very worthy winner! Top man and he has acheived something very special in jump racing.

A lot of people would not agree with that, but then I saw your location so you must be a season ticket holder so would have seen him more than most. :D

No, I am not a regular atendee at the "Theatre Of Dreams!"

But I do think that Giggs, Keane and Scholes are better footballers than the golden one!

I am an exiled Yorkshireman actually and support Sheffield Wednesday. Mind you, I go and watch Brighton a few times a season and ironically, had a season ticket on the Kippax at Maine Road for three years when I was at Uni in Manchester.

Each is very different from the other though. To have that four all in the same side at the same time was heaven sent.

Only Scholes could come close to Beckham with his range and variety of passing. Beckham would match any of them with his workrate too.

I'm not a Utd fan, and as much as it pains to say it, Beckham and Neville were the best right sided combo around in their prime.
