So I am looking for some comfy walking shoes and looking at reviews these came up. Went to Cotswolds today to have a look at them and they had none in stock. Now bearing in mind these can retail up to £190. I came across these.

Now it says there Japanese imports which means nowt to me. So I’d there something iffy about them. I currently have some Merrell walking shoes which I thought would bed in after a Couple of outings but flippin eck they are tight around the toes. Oddly enough the guy in Cotswolds said they are a narrow shoe. So thoughts on these Danner appreciated and also any other super comfy shoes. 👍

Are you going up hills and mountains or just regular walking, albeit a few miles in the countryside still? I've got some of the Decathlon own brand hiking boots, Quecha I think. Silly comfy and I have wide feet.

Not expensive but I've been really happy with them. If you want to do proper hiking then you'd need to spend more but for casual walking you could do a lot worse.

I don't know anything about the brand you mentioned.

Decent shoes and boots for walking in. Decathlon outdoor gear is really good quality, the winter boots they have are well insulated, comfy and hard wearing. I absolutely love their walking trousers as well, every bit as good as Montane and Rab for half the price.

But to @Tashyboy post. As LT asks it hugely depends on what walking you’re planning on and the terrain you will be covering. But from why you’ve mention about tight in the toes, you need to step away from the internet and ordering online. Take a trip to your local GoOutdoors and have a look at a selection of wide toe box shoes and try them on before wasting money. Salomon do the best for comfort with ortholite insole and goretex uppers plus they can take a battering ( I wear them to my job and they get hammered but remain slipper like). Others to look at would be Terrex or even Scarpa (but spenny though).

Agree with Lucifer, footwear, especially expensive footwear, should be tried on before buying. Once you know they fit well you can start looking online for ‘bargains’.

I normally wear trainers when walking around cities etc. but in Marrakesh I wore adidas clima cool and the top
Of my left foot ( bony spur ) was painful after 20,000 steps. 60,000 over three days. Ave got it into my head to get a good pair of walking shoes that will do me for hill walking and weekends away. On top of that I am Hoping they will be my go to shoe when in Norway for a week and Alaska for two weeks. So I am Ruling out trainers. I did say to the guy re ordering online without trying on is not going to happen. I suppose One man’s comfy is another’s purgatory.
Dropped a clanger not trying on the scarpa today. Although the Mendel caribe GTX were not bad.
Cheers guys.

Norway aye! Well I know a fair bit about walking there!! Absolutely get yourself down GoOutdoors and try Salomon, Scarpa and Salewa I wouldn’t wear anything else waking out there other than those 3 brands. Great for comfort, hard wearing, your feet, back and body in general will thank you for it. If you need a wider toe edge toward the Salomon and Scarpa as some Salewa can get narrow.

Birthday coming up so Missis T might treat me. Me crocs could have competition 🤣

So a bit of an update.
Today Mr and Missis T have spent 3 hours in Nottingham in Go outdoors and Cotswold outdoors. Having read loads of reviews I had narrowed it down to two shoes.
Scarpa XT rapid gtx and Hoka Anacapa 2 Low GTX.

Now I have to say I did try on quite a few other walking shoes whilst in both shops and comfy most were not. It kinda endorsed what was said that they must be tried on and not just ordered online. Most shoes were tight on the toe area which really surprised me. I left Go outdoors thinking the Scarpa were in pole position. But I was not 100% sold on them. I got to Cotswold outdoors and didn’t really see anything. Getting desperate I picked up a pair of Saucony goretex trail shoes amd sweet lord they were drop dead comfy. A gorgeous Vibram sole, toe protection etc but they look more like a training shoe. £160 was making my eyes water. Whilst waiting for the woman to bring me a pair of shoes to try on I saw a pair of New balance X Hierro V8 shoes. Again a trail type shoe. Sweet lord. I had gone from kinda struggling to spoilt for choice. They felt gorgeous on. I tried the New Balance V9 and they were shocking. Don’t get me wrong they were comfy but the soles are curved. It felt like I was rocking whilst stood still. Sod that.
The guy in the shop then went onto explain pros and cons about having Gore-Tex or not. He was saying your feet will get warm and not breathe which kinda contradicts the online write up about Goretex.
Suffice to say am now looking at a pair of New Balance X Hierro V8 GTX. In an 8 or 8 1/2 as reviews say the shoes are slightly tighter in a goretex version. Ave sat down wi missis T and talked about where they will be predominantly worn. They should be ideal for my trips to Norway and Alaska. But if it’s muddy walking in Derbyshire etc I have other boots that will be worn instead.
What I will say is I felt like Imelda Marcos trying on shoes and I cannot believe the difference in the comfort of some of the shoes. By and large a size 8 was an eight in length but some shoes were really snug/ tight fitting.
So tomorrow am on the hunt at the local sports direct in Shirebrook to see if they have any size 8 or 8 1/2s there. It’s there massive superstore so fingers crossed.
Thanks for the advice guys.

Hate to break it to you Tash if you want good walking or trail shoes £160 is pretty cheap! Goretex(GTX) does breathe and wick moisture away as stated in the write ups, however unlike in clothing garments the tighter weave in boots and shoes and lack of airflow around the foot means it doesn’t wick as quickly as clothing does this causes the feet to sweat and retain moisture. It can cause cold injuries which is why we’re very specific what boots we allow to be worn when teaching in Norway. It’s different with clothing because of the looser fit of the garment compared to a shoe you get more air flow and naturally the item breathes better allowing it to maintain waterproofing and for sweat/moisture to breathe outwards.

Shirebrook is a decent store and probably the only really good sports direct store tbh. Hopefully you find what you’re after but be prepared to spend the money if not, end of the day the feet imo are so important and can prevent so many other body issues by being looked after and wearing correctly fitted footwear.

If the new balance GTX Don’t fit comfortably in the Gore-Tex style I will go back for the Saucony. The odd thing is I kinda compared the newer shoes to the older style. They were supposed to be improved but they didn’t sit quite right with me. The new shoes are probably like looking at golf drivers. In a sense of the new don’t mean last years are now no good. I know I have never taken as long looking for a pair of shoes.
