I want to take my father shopping for a new set of clubs. He has not played any golf for 10 years and as a "once/twice a month" use to play off an 18.

He only wants a set that will suit his game and help him regain his previous level and then improve a little.

He has looked at the following sets but seems more lost than before he started and I am of no help:

Wilson x31
Wilson Reflex
Wilson Ultra
Ben Sayers m7's
MD Black Hawks.

There is very little choice in our area and I would like to take him shopping in Chester, Liverpool or Manchester.

Can you suggest sets to try and shops to visit in these areas?

Much obliged!

It depends alot on his age, flexibility, strength, swing speed etc.
If he is a senior type golfer and his swing is slowing down, I would suggest a slightly softer graphite shaft. It will say either A or SENIOR on the shaft.
As far as which make to buy, its down to the individual and what he likes the look of.
As long they are cavity backs and a light graphite shaft, he should be ok.
If he is still strong and active and swinging at 100mph, go and see a local pro. :)

If there's not much choice and he hasn't got a local pro to go to ( I'd always give the pros at the local clubs a look/try first ) then American Golf have got some nice looking stuff at the £200 mark in the sales.

Wilson Staff Di7
W/S Ci7
Nike Ignite

Might be worth a pop.

Get him to look at some slightly better clubs:-
Cobra
Ping G series etc.

And get advice from a pro.

Try and not go with any pre-conceived ideas. Goto an American Golf and 'try' before you buy. Then when you see something you like - straight home and onto Ebay!
