custom fitting

Has anyone had any custom fitting from clubhouse golf in Manchester or any direct golf store ? If so how was it?

I have mate and to be honest it was sound.

I booked a slot and Peter (the tall, bald fella) asked me what irons i wanted to try, i chose about 5 different sets and he took me into the fitting room.

He helped me massively during my fitting and at no time did he try to pressurise me into buying.

I'd definitely recommend them, the only downside is the fitting is done inside on a monitor.

Whats the cost? Been thinking about this today.

Was that clubhouse or direct golf??

Clubhousegolf in Eccles.

The cost was £25 iirc but it was offset the cost of my clubs because i placed the order within 7 days.

I thought this was fair as it stops people being "custom fitted" then buying off the web or cheaper places.

Clubhousegolf is probably one of the cheapest golf shops on the web and they do price match too.

What did they check ? Lie angle shafts etc ? I deffo want the irons and havnt ever been custom fitted before plus they do finance as well

Thinking of going for a sldr fitting. Do you know if they would have a full selection of custom shafts or just the standard one?

I'm pretty certain they've got a full TM cart of shafts aswell as lots of others, give them a call i'm sure they'll be able to help.

Depending on where you are, True Fit Golf in warrington is a TM Fitting centre now so I'm sure they'd have a range of shafts.

The fitting suite is ok, it is not the best though.

The system they use has 3 'fields' that collect data from the ball as it crosses them. It doesn't give you accurate spin rates, launch angles, attack angle etc... I went to clubhouse and they said I was getting 230 carry with a 3W, and the fitting felt a little rushed. I think for your £25 you will get around 20 mins, no where near enough time to get a decent fitting. For your driver you will want to try a few heads with different shats, and hit a few shots with each. A little time to warm up, a decent fitting for one club should be around 35 - 40 minutes, then for a full bag you'll be getting to around an hour and half to 2 hours

It is ok for a basic CF, but if you want to get the best possible shaft/ head combo you could try somewhere like TourX Golf in Warrington or another fitter that has state of the art fitting tech. I personally feel that when I get a full CF I will go to the likes of TourX, another independant or a national fitting centre like at the belfry etc to ensure I'm taking out all my excuses for bad equipment. We all know its never us.

Like Stuart C said TFG in Warrington are good but the charge a fair whack and are not the cheapest for clubs. Just phone round then ask about for feedback on the couple you select. Then go in open minded as you may be surprised in what works best on paper for you. If you want a particular brand try to go the one of their Fitting Centres.

When i went to Clubhousegolf for my fitting i was there at least 45mins and I've been happy with my irons since.

I went to TFG and they weren't very helpful when i asked about CF session, though i know a few people who have been recently and they're very happy with the service/prices.

Sorry mate i didn't see this, yeah they checked all that.

They used the Mizuno DNA shaft selector gadget that you hit a few balls with and the data it gives gets inputted into a computer and that suggests the 3 best shafts for your swing.

I went to Clubhouse Golf last week for a driver fitting and it was superb. It must depend on how busy they are as to how much time you spend in their as i was in for around 45 mins however they do say when you book it it lasts around 25 mins. i went through various clubs decided the one i want then he tweaked it using the launch monitor to maximize my distance and dispersion. all in all i would recommend CG for this howver try to book in a quiet period like a tuesday morning.

I agree. I went there last Friday lunchtime and it was very quiet.

Ryan fitted me for some Ping G25's. It cost £40 which was refunded against the clubs. No pressure whatsoever and we were in for around an hour. Ryan even gave me a few pointers on improving my grip, swing etc.

I felt it was excellent value for money and would definitely shop there/use them again.

I am a 20 (19.8) handicap player approaching his 60th birthday! I have been playing occasional golf for years and regular golf for 18 months

Had a great experience at the Belfry Fitting Centre yesterday. My fitter was PGA professional Gareth. I had pre-booked a two hour session for a full set at a cost of £50 (refundable against club purchases)

I had a lesson the day before I went as I wanted to get the most out of the session by having a consistent swing (for me!). This really paid off and I was hitting the ball quite consistently from the start. The fitter said that this made his job quite a lot easier!

I had expressed an interest in the Ping G30s and so started off in the Ping bay. After being fitted for a 7 iron, I was then able to compare it to the equivalents from TaylorMade, Callaway and Titleist (and more if I had wanted to). Both the computer readings and my own feeling was that the Ping G30 outperformed the other clubs, so I went with Ping for irons, a 5 wood and 4 and 5 hybrids.

Then I tried two versions of the Ping G30 driver, the 10.5 degree and the 12 degree SF Tec and both with different shaft options, with the 12 degree SF Tec with regular Tour shaft having a better ball flight for me. Then I was able to compare this to the SDLR (and of course others if I had wanted to). The Ping was much better than the SDLR for me, so I went with that.

The Belfry also has just about every putter you have ever heard of and after a few trial putts with the iPing gadget attached to the shaft to check putter path, I went for one of the new style of Odyssey ones (Versa #1 Wide – white/black/white)

As expected, the Belfry prices were pretty competitive and they knock off the £50 fitting fee if you order from them. Probably, I could have found clubs with online retailers slightly cheaper if I had order irons from one, hybrids from another, driver from yet another etc, but the £50 refund pretty much offset that, and the clincher was that if I ordered from the Belfry, they would give me two free rounds and two half price rounds on their top Brabazon course (the one the Ryder Cup is played on). This normally costs £160 per person per round.

For info, I am not a long hitter, but I found the G30s to be quite a bit longer than my current (rather old) clubs. The 7 iron had a 152 carry and the 5 wood went a total distance of 211 with the 5 hybrid at 190 and the 4 hybrid at 200 - these distances, hit with range balls totally amazed me and if they are repeated on the course, I will be very happy (the fitter said that with good quality balls, they should be even greater!)

I hit the 50 degree utility wedge 87 yards, and even hit the 58 degree lob wedge 73 yards and it came down with snow on!

One of the most encouraging thing about these Ping clubs was how straight and high they went - totally amazing how easy they were to hit - goodness knows what a "good" player could do with them.

So overall a very good experience and I would recommend a trip to the Belfry for a fitting.

Nice write up of the belfrey fitting. I was fitted there many moons ago and as a lefty I thought it was very good. Also the prices were competitive as the set of irons I got at the time was the same price as you would pay on the internet.

Must admit I am tempted by the G30 range as they seem to have a lot of forgiveness, which is what I am after. Don't overly care if I can get an extra 5 yards out of a 7 iron, but I do care that they go a half decent distance when I don't hit the middle of the club face, which is quite often.
