Custom Fitting

I was measured wrist to floor yes, that is how we determined I need longer than standard shafts,

I also tried out,

TM RocketBladez
Adams Golf Ideal Super S
Mizuno JPX 825
Cobra Amp Cell
Nike VRS Combo

I tried all of them in stiff shafts and regular shafts - the only 2 I like the feel of were the Nike VRS Combo and Cobra Amp Cells, we tested these head to head, looking at my comfort, distance, dispersion, consistency. During the fitting I decided on the Cobra Amp Cells, we then loft and lie checks, and determined I needed 1* upright on my irons. By the end of the session I had settled on 4-PW in the Cobras with stiff shafts. Just wondered what other peoples choices would have been. With the stiff shafts I actually lost my cut that I had and hit little draws, every comparison you could make between the Cobras and my current set was +1 for the Cobras.

Seems a reasonable session then. Perhaps not quite the range within manufacturers and somewhat limited on shafts. Styles were probably influenced by his current knowledge of your swing/play, and the low 'good hit' ratio of the Nikes probably justifies that.

Amps seem to be the preferred option. I'd hang fire on the Nikes for the time being with those numbers.

It was a great session, gave me some great insights into my swing too which is always good :). I think the Cobras will be a great purchase, my pro says they won't stop me getting better, and when I have the skill to I will be able to work the ball easily enough with them. Just need to find the £500 now :(

The club that impressed me most in the session was when we were fitting my hybrid the Adams Super S was simply awesome ball rockets of that thing like nothing I have ever hit before!

don't be put off my not hitting some irons well in a range session. it takes time to develop the feel for a club. chances are you wont do this in an hour during a fitting.

I bought the original nike pro combos when I first got into golf seriously. for a week I chopped it about and considered selling them to make my money back. in the second week I gradually got the hang of them. they stayed in the bag for 4 years. replaced last Christmas with mizunos which in turn have been replaced by my old nikes.

How was the 1 in 4 stat worked out??? Just you saying how it "felt" ??? Or by the computer telling you how long it went, how exact the shape shot was? How close to the sweet spot it was?? Did you set a benchmark for determine this 1 in 4 figure??

Your fitting session sounds pretty standard to me, buy the ones that work for you now, the ones that give you confidence, and the ones that you like to look at!!! forget about growing into them and shot shaping,

I went through this kind of thing but without the fitting 20 years ago. Traded in my impacts for some tp18s and did not have a handicap. The pro just flogged them to me, he must have been giggling like a school girl when I left. Anyway I got some free time to scratch my golf itch and these clubs helped me no end. They were hard to hit well, they told you what rubbish was and how sweet a good one could be. In the end I could drill them consistently because I put the time in on them. I changed them for Zing2s that were made to measure, and I was in golfing nirvana, my miss hit was well within the comfort zone of the zing2s. My handicap dropped 8 strokes with the change.
So if you want to put the time in and work on your golf swing and get a feel for what the face is doing and how the ball is coming off it, then buy the Nikes ... If you are a part time fella wanting and easy life and to trundle around a golf course get something that is more forgiving ( if you have blades and can't hit them ... You do look SILLY!!)

Totally agree

It does make me chuckle when i hear a someone say "I want these blade type clubs so I get better.........". Just use clubs relevant to ones at the time of purchase. If I practice the 100m all day every day I can guarantee I won't be at the next Olympics! Hard practice does not always guarantee a single figure handicap

I went for a fitting with my teaching pro. Hit the Cally X Hot pro and the I20. Wanted either of these to be the one but the G25 was the winner in terms of distance and dispersion. Went to an independent fitter who had never seen me before. G25 came on top again. Static Ping fit, married to hitting off an impact board.

I wouldn't take any club I was only hitting one in four properly. Not a good way to build confidence or make a score
