This is a long post warning (- and getting longer as it's crashed on me three times!)

Last Friday I went to a custom club fitter (http://www.designergolf.co.uk/) originally just for a chat but ended up getting a fitting (well it's handier than The Belfry).
Very thorough, he advertises that a fitting will last 2 hours but as he's willing and eager to explain everything in as much detail as you want it can take longer. I was there 3.5 hours though some of that was a putting lesson!

He confirmed my iron swing speed at 76. Then the surprises started.
Grip and grip wrong. I need a ladies+2 tapes and my grip is way too strong. (I've been having lessons and they didn't spot this!)
Shaft should be soft side of regular - hell, the ego takes a bashing at these sessions - I mean I'm not exactly small!

Came away with a new putting stroke and some putting tips.

Today I went to collect the new toys http://www.wishongolf.com/designs_details.php?dKey=68&dType=sets and these http://www.wishongolf.com/designs_details.php?dKey=71&dType=wedge
10 clubs, 4 - LW (LW was a freebie) Wishon 90 gr shafts and bright orange Karakal grips. Cost less than AP2 4-PW.
Tomorrow is range day, then probably jumping the gun, a game on Saturday.

Once these were settled we started on driver, 3-wood, hybrid and putter - well the putter was OK!
Driver is a TM r7 limited 11.5 matrix Ozik stiff - first off, despite the label it's <u>not</u> 11.5 it measures 13.5 deg. (Andrew (who, tbh, is not a fan of mainstream manufacturers, says this is common throughout the industry)
shaft is too stiff, too long and I swing too fast trying to make it work. slowing the swing down improved launch angle, smash factor* to (just) over 1.5 and distance.
3-wood is too stiff - apparently I can't swing hard enough to make the flex work for me (my ego!)
hybrid is probably ok but ideally, except for the driver everything should have compatible shafts otherwise you need three or four different swings.

we'll sort these once I've smoothed out the swing. ok, it's more expense but he views these fits as more than just a one-off. we've heard more than once from forumers who have had fits then could never get on with the new clubs, well Andrew guarantees to rebuild clubs if it's necessary.

Good luck with the new bats. I hope the 2011 wardrobe fund hasn't taken a battering and there's a little left in the kitty for some dashing new strides

fear not, a new delivery from the US arrived today, and I have a parcel from an on-line website to collect Saturday

Decisions, decisions - what to wear at Hanbury Manor

oh I forgot to add (and I bet this bit is controversial) my clubs are +1.5. He hasn't bent a club head for over 12 years and believes that sole contact out of the middle is down to shaft length.
Standard length is based on wrist to floor of 27 in. mine is 29.5 in.

Great job sir, new clubs at last. I think you are very brave to go down the road you have and I am sure they will be great for you (and your lady's hands :D)

It has been great to read your posts and walk though your buying process and I think its awesome that you have let your ego go and got what feels best for you.

How do they feel compared to all the other clubs you have tried?

Will he make the woods for you too?

Look forward to the review!

@bob, how come NOOOOoooooo? is this something you feel is too low tech? Tell us what you know?

Al

Edit: Oh ye, never herd of those shafts, was it a concern that he only had 2 brands to chose from? How many shafts did you try?

Agree those irons look really sweet. Nice to see someone try a different route to the usual Ping/Mizzy/TM mainstream. If they play as good as they look you'll be well pleased.

Fitting experience seems to have been first class too so it'll be interesting to see how you get on. Keep us updated.

I actually thought your new irons look like they the old Titleist DCI's!

Wishon gets a good name however where you will fall down is if you ever want to trade them in!

Good news and good luck with your new bats!

i was only this that worried me, the clubs looked lovely and the knowledge of the fitter seemed very good. but in 4 years time if you wanted to trade in, would i buy your used Wishons or a set of i15's?.... People dont like change

good that you took the plunge and got new sticks though...
