custom fitting at direct golf...

Depends where you go. The Cambridge DG has a massive fitting bay, launch monitors and pretty knowledgeable pros. They are also a recommended regional fitting centre for Callaway and Mizuno. I would be happy to give them a go.

Had one about 3 years ago, but trackman or simialr facility not available, so had my irons fitted based on device that measured swing speed, also measured in terms distance of hands from the floor and size of hands for grip size and tape put on bottom of clubs for use with a strike board which indicated that i was neutral in terms of loft and lie. So i guess you could say it was not a proper c/f. I will definitely fork out for a proper custom fit next time.

At my local DG they have one of those screens that you hit into so its just like being on the range or on the course as you can see the ball flight. They also have track man and all the other equipment.

What course do you play that has a screen you hit into?

The purpose of a range is to see the ball flight in realtime not simulation.

If I was going down the C/F route again I'd never let AG or any of the other branded outlets near me. I'd either go to a local pro but more than likely I'd go for a factory fitting. It's like a bespoke suit. Would you let some shop boy from Burton measure you and fit it or would you prefer a proper tailor to do the job.

I went to 2 C/Fits this year - Mizuno for my Irons and Titleist for Driver/Woods. Mizuno free , Titleist cost £40 but witht he range of shafts available and being ab;e to hit out onto a range with PRO V1/x range balls was defo worth it. Im sure you woyld have a similar experience at Ping/Callaway etc.

Cant recommend this route enough...Good Luck.

i once got custom fitted at ping gainsbourgh for g10s ,worst irons ive ever had for me ,sold em after 6 months got titliest ap1s off the shelf been happy ever since, what suits one persone dont always suit another, my g10 driver went really well

Not sure where you are in Leicestershire mate, but it may be worth a trip to Thorpe Park at Peterborough. He has all the latest fitting kit there. He is also a regional fitting centre for Ping, Callaway and Taylormade if I remember correctly. He has got the systems that you can interchange the head and shafts so you can get the perfect club set up for you. Got a set from AG once and I would never go back again. The lad in there took my height, took my wrist to floor measurement then tried to order me a set of irons without actually seeing me hit a ball....... Well if I had let him do what he wanted then I would have had a set of clubs too short and too upright for me. I then waited until the TM tour van was in the area doing a demo day and got fitted by them. They set me up 1 inch longer and 1 degree upright. Saturday lad in AG tried to set me up half inch and 2 degrees. Who would you trust???????? TM tour van or 20 year old in AG? You can safely say I will never return to them for purchasing clubs.

Just having a nose for you at Thorpe Wood. They have Callaway Gold standard optifit. Taylormade Selectfit. Ping advanced fitting cart for irons. Titleist fitting works. Cobra custom fitting. Mizuno Fitting centre with DNA. What more could you ask for? Put all those fitting systems along with a top of the range computerised fitting room, I am definately going there for my new irons.

The European Golf store attached to the range at Charnwood Golf Centre (Loughborough) have a fitting bay with Trackman and fitting carts, although I'm not sure what makes they can custom fit other than Titleist and Nike.
