Hi all,

I've been playing this game for a couple of years now and have managed to get my handicap down to 11 so far.
My problem is, my driving can be so inconsistent. One day it's as straight as can be, right down the fairway, around 250 yard carry. The next day it's slicing off into the rough/trees. Anyway, I was wondering if it's worth investing in a custom fitted driver shaft? I currently have the standard shaft on my Xhot driver (stiff)

Thanks!

If you can hit it some days but not others I'm inclined to think that you are experiencing one of the joys of amateur golf: inconsistency :D

No doubt! Walk off one day thinking I should play in next years Masters, the next day I feel like ebaying all my gear.

My driver shaft costs a fortune at RRP and is a solid fit for my swing, yet my driving is as you describe yours.

I would hazard a guess it is the inconsistency of your driver swing rather than your driver shaft. However, is the X-Hot adjustable? If so, you could pick up a couple of shafts off eBay and give them a whirl and sell them on at minimal loss if they make little difference.

I know exactly how you feel. Some day I come off the course thinking I need a different shaft or driver, a day later I wouldn't sell her for a million pounds. Unfortunately no amount of retail therapy will make up for an inconsistent swing. Practice, practice and more practice is the only thing that will make you better but as others have said Tiger, Mickleson and the other greats regulary hit one down the middle and and the next into deep do do. So what chance have we. Chin up and just except golf is like that.

I'd cut 1/2 to 1 in off my current shaft first and see if that straightens it out. You'll get very little for a standard shaft and if the length doesn't make any difference look at ebay or Gamola golf for a replacement.
