I've noticed a few posts with scores posted and the CSS coming down one to par, just wondered if there are many courses where the CSS comes down at the weekly medal, or up every week by an average of 2 at mine

On Wednesday ours went up by 1. With the rain we've had the course is playing it's full length.

I've just checked and there were ten players at CSS or under out of the eighty or so that entered.

I am at a loss to understand the motion of CSS, my course is Par 70 with a CSS of 69, mostly competition CSS plays at 68 yet few people play nett par or better, I need to understand how CSS works

It's the number of cat 1,2,3 players at SSS+2 or better that matters.

If the CSS is consistently going up or down over a whole season then the SSS is probably not assessed correctly and your committee should be getting the county union involved to correct this.

Usually 1 under at our place, although it was 2 under in the last medal.

Ours is Par 69, SSS is 68, CSS normally 68 but we probably get 5ish 67's during the year (normally when I play well and I'm expecting a cut) and A couple of years ago I saw it at 66! I've only seen it go up very rarely.

CSS can't be 66 against SSS of 68, 67 is as low as it can go.

Sorry forgot to mention that we had some new holes built and last year was our first season with them, due to the re-measurements we were upgraded to a SSS 68, used to be a SSS 67 before then.

As you can imagine, trying to get cut with a SSS 2 under par was a nightmare!

that was my understanding also that it cannot go below by anymore than 1 and up by anymore than 3

That would explain it.

I played Royal Liverpool in a 72 hole comp in May, Par 72, SSS 75, CSS went up to 78 on the Thu morning! I was quite chuffed with my gross 77.
