Evening Gents.

Played in the monthly medal last weekend and have a quick question regarding CSS and how it affects handicap calculations.

I shot to my handicap (18) and was wondering. If CSS goes to +1 over par, do I receive a cut based on shooting 1 under the CSS, or does it only go based on strokes taken during the round?

Silly question I know but it's got me thinking and a little confused :D

All handicap adjustments are based on CSS not par or SSS. Of course CSS would more often than not be = SSS if the course is correctly assessed but you are right, if the CSS goes up 1 then you will be adjusted down if you have scored better.

You say you shot to your handicap - do you mean you shot to the par of the course or to SSS?

Shot 18 over the par of the course, not against SSS.

I'm playing 9 tomorrow night, weather permitting, so ill soon know.

I'm sure if you did a search you'd find this has been answered already but...

H'caps are related to SSS in the 1st instance not par. To answer your question we need to know your course SSS but in a nutshell.

If you shoot 18 over par and SSS = par then you played to your h'cap
If you shoot 18 over par and SSS = 2 less than par then you were 2 over your h'cap
If you shoot 18 over par and SSS = 2 more than par yhen you were 2 under your h'cap

Then, during comps, the nonsensical CSS is bought into the equation. CSS can be between 1 less and 3 more than SSS. To work out how you did in relation to your h'cap you need to substitute SSS for CSS in the examples above

Hope that helps
