One for Rulefan or somebody from an actual simple scenario.

Course Par 71 SSS 71

4 players played in a Comp earlier this week

Player 1 cat1 nett 68
Player 2 and 3 cat2 nett 75 and 76( outside buffer zone)
Player 4 cat 2 N/R

The CSS was 72 on the day.

Sure it is correct but it would be appreciated if somebody could show exactly how it is calculated?

Many thanks

It is long winded so your best bet is to refer to the manual. https://www.congu.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/2019-CONGU-Manual.pdf

The mechanics of the CSS calculation are:
• Establish the composition of the ‘field’ as a percentage of each Handicap Category excluding Category 5 and 6.
e.g. 10% Cat.1 50% Cat.2 40% Cat.3 + Cat.4

• Establish the percentage of the ‘field’ (Cat.1 + Cat.2 + (Cat.3 + Cat.4) with a nett score within their respective Buffer Zones, or better e.g. 20%

• Refer to Table A in Appendix B, and if appropriate Table B.

In particular see Example 3 in the Appendix

Cheers Doug.

Realise it is complicated but thought with 4 players and the CSS being different from SSS because 1 player was within buffer zone this would be an ideal example for us uninitiated

Then again where it gets really interesting is when there isn't a player in that comp within their buffer zone....

However, as CSS and buffer zones are disappearing in the foreseeable future it's really not something to spend to much energy on 🤗

I shall miss it.
