Hi,

I played on my own at Llantrisant GC, I equalled my PB of getting round in 88. First time out with my new irons, I was pretty impressed with my purchases. I also tried Pro V1 balls for the first time and noticed a big improvement in my putting.

I was going to try a new course as I still haven't decided which to join yet, a bit spoiled for choice around here really. I've only been playing since last summer, I'm planning to play most of the courses around here a few times before choosing which to join. So far I've played :

Llantrisant
Whitehall
Rhondda
Cottrell - Button
Cottrell - Mackintosh
St. Andrews Major
Pontypridd
Mountain Lakes
Brynhill

Llantrisant and The Vale Hotel are literally right on my doorstep, but I fancy playing a few more before joining a course.

Have you ever played Creigiau, Parc or Peterstone Lakes ?

Hi mate, I was a member of the Vale when it opened, it was just a nine hole course then, these have been built into the National course and the Lake course is a very nice track. Recommended.
Also try Dinas Powys, Wenvoe Castle, Llanishen and Whitchurch.

Peterstone and Parc are flat as pancakes and are hard under foot when dry as they are clay based.
At Brynhill I found too many holes crossing each other for my liking.
Mountain lakes, you need to be a goat if my memory serves me right.

Not played Creigiau but I know a fella who was a member there years ago and he loved it.

Let me know how you get on.

Hi Gustavo,

Dinas Powys, no thanks,
Mountain lakes, too many mountains (+lakes!) to be honest.

Creigiau, very, very nice.
Lakes course (vale of Glamorgan). Nice, but I know plenty of ex-members who couldn't tolerate the hotel guest tee priorities (+ wedding photos being taken on 18th green!)

Llantrisant, nice but small.

Also consider the Glamorganshire in Penarth, it has a very good name.

What distance will you consider driving to if you join a club?

Hi John,

Mountain Lakes is very hilly, especially the last 4 holes, by the 18th I'm shattered !!. Besides, it's a pretty shabby course that could with a bit more money spent on it. It was ideal for me to start learning on, but now I want a home club.

Creigiau is very near to me, my neighbours father is a member there, and at Kenfig. I'm hoping he'll invite me down to Kenfig for a round this summer.

I've only played Llantrisant about 10 times, the first was in October. I'd like to see how it looks in the summer. It is short, but I kind of like it ! Besides, it's about a 4 min drive from my front door. Saying that though, Creigiau is about a 2 min drive and I've never played there !!

I don't mind travelling to a decent course, but if you're thinking of suggesting I join Southerndown - I can't afford that kind of money at the moment. My Mrs would kill me !!!

No, not suggesting you join southendown at all!

if you want a visit just PM me and we'll sort it out.

P+K is a good course too, played it many times. Tough challenge.

John.
