Cricket India in the spirit or not?

I thought it was an excellent piece of sportsmanship and the Indian team have really enhanced their reputation with this act.

Great to see. Good to see the crowd cheer on India too.

I don't understand the thinking of anyone that does not share this view (Except Dodgers of course - it's only natural for him to think Bell should be out).

It is a shining example of why cricket is a brilliant game, played in a superb spirit. A wonderful contrast to football with it's cheating, spitting and underhand, unsporting tactics.

I wouldn't quite go that far Snelly. The jelly bean affair, the constant sledging, the harrassment/intimidation of umpires and let's not forget when Sidebottom took out one of the Kiwis in that one dayer and he was run out having been levelled by the bowler and Collingwood refused to withdraw the appeal!!! :o

And then there's the fact that all the former England captain's on Sky were saying over tea if it was them they wouldn't withdraw the appeal. They were actually vindicating that the decision should stand, completely (as JD right notes) ignoring the fact that the whole affair was created by the timing coinciding with the tea interval.

All that said it is still much better than football!

Out. As a non cricketer I cant see how he could accept that he wasnt out. He made the mistake so should stand by it.

Whats other rules can you play to suit yourself!

I'm sure you'll remember that next time someone goes to give you a putt.

The word I had from my contacts at Sky is that they were under serious editorial instructions from Barney Francis, head of Sky Sports, to take that line.

I guess it was already looking like an inflammatory incident so I guess he was trying to avoid pouring oil on the flames. That said they could have just got splinters over the tea break rather than being so forceful. You know seeing both sides yadda yadda yadda until they knew for certain what was going on.

Oh well here's hoping the boys finish the job today. Looking at how well the tail batted it doesn't look as though the decision made too much of a difference. If Bell was still in on the other hand...

Edit: whoops just jinxed Prior's wicket. I'll keep my fingers off the keyboard from now on :o
