Not really... but that got your attention :D

Played today in a grouping with Smiffy, Golfmmad and Craphacker, it was thoroughly entertaining. Everyone played some good shots, everyone left a few on the course and I thought we had a right good laugh. Some good jokes were made, mostly directed towards Craphacker who appeared to be not quite so crap as he keeps saying.... :D
It was all in the best possible taste of course and dead funny. He played really well.

I don't know if the group in front of us saw the herd of cows that came on the course on the 12th/13th but it was simply unbelievable.. totally put me off my game! LOL <BIG WINK>

In my opinion Craphacker had the shot of the day for our group. Tee shot went into the water right on the 16th, took a pretty nasty drop for two on the bank of the water leaving a dodgy stance, tricky little uphill lie and a carry over water to a pin at approx 190y - hit it to 10 feet AND made the putt for par!! Not bad :p

It was certainly a pleasure to play with these 3 guys, everyone was chilled, relaxed and dead funny. I look forward to getting on the course with them again.

This was my first "Forum meet", as it was for JustONEuk and Craphacker, and what a great day it was! All three are top blokes with good banter, which made for a really enjoyable round of golf. I felt totally relaxed throughout, and in fact it felt like i'd played with these guys for years!

And Craphacker, you are not crap and certainly not a hacker :).
You played well and have a really nice swing.

As for Smiffy and JustONEuk we couldn't keep up with your driving - some were awesome to watch!

Finally, many thanks for organising Smiffy, it's a great course, really enjoyed it.

Hopefully we can meet up again soon.

Golfmmad.

Just managed to get onto the forum, I couldn't get through the door, my head was so swollen with all the bullshine these guys have been coming out with.

Let's look at the facts.

Smiffy did a great job of setting it up, and having met him for the first time I find it so hard to believe that someone so shy and quiet can be a car salesman. For someone that was by his own admission playing poorly, I think he scored damn well - always the sign of a tough competitor. When he middled it, he ridiculed his 12 handicap

Golfmad has got a nice wee swing there, especially when he relaxes - like me he was showing signs of nerves over the opening few. He had a few problems in the deep rough and the bunkers ( for a beautifully set up course, the bunkers were strangely bereft of sand ). But when he kept out of trouble, he scored as well as anyone. And as for the fistpump action when he got his first nett birdie, he almost smiled.

JustOne ? Well it was great to see someone that obviously has got a great game was so nervous about playing with us lesser mortals. He came straight back from holiday, having not picked up a club for a fortnight, borrowed a set from a mate ( never had a game with them before ) and happily slapped a 5W into the middle of the adjoining fairway. But boy, when he warmed up, he showed glimpses of what his game is all about. Chartham off the yellows was way too short for his game to show it's strengths, but his birdie, birdie finish showed what he'll be doing when he's got himself back in the groove of it all.

Me ? I wish I could drive even a fraction as well as Smiffy and JustOne. I managed two blobs - both on par 3s, one of which included 3 to get out of a bunker. But more positively, I managed a couple of good iron shots to set up net birdies. Club of the day was definately the 5W - it played a couple of damn fine shots to get me back into holes that I'd previously tried to play myself out of. Hitting a green from 180-200 yards having taken 2 or 3 shots to travel the first 200 is quite satisfying. Just wish I could do it more often.

But moment of the day was definately when we were playing the 12th. There was a lot of shouting and ruckus from round the corner on the 13th. We merrily played onto the green, when suddenly a herd of cows appeared round the corner. I don't mean one or two, I mean a couple of dozen ! As some of the abusive noises they made when I duffed my chip and run, well I'm sure they knew damn well what they were on about.

We've seen sheep on a course before, and deer. And heard stories of crocs in Florida, and snakes here and abroad. But cows ? Nah, it was a figment, must have been !

Great day. Can't wait to do it again. Having been apprehensive about whether I was ready to show myself up against more regular players, I can only say to any other self doubters - get out there with other forum members as quickly as possible. The amount of support you get is unbelievably positive. Until you manage to hit two greens in a row, when it suddenly changes tack into total, vehement, abuse :D

Only just found time to post...as you know I had to dash off to pick my daughter Lydia up from Uckfield on the way home, and it was straight back home to change and off to watch Bjorn Again, (ABBA tribute band), in Eastbourne last night. Absolutely knackered....

Yep, thoroughly enjoyed the day, great company and as you have said a good laugh.
I was really looking forward to playing Chartham again, I normally play reasonably well around there but it didn't quite click yesterday. Never mind, they'll be other times. Was really good to meet Chris, Clive & James for the first time, and I apologise for keep getting names mixed up, it's why I live in Bexhill with all the other old duffers.
Some good shots played by all, with Clive (Craphacker) finishing on 34 points with two blobs. Well played mate. That shot you hit from the water at 16 was superb. A pro would have been proud to hit that.
James, you have a great swing mate, so well balanced and smooth. And when you collar it, it flies. It was a pleasure to watch you play, it's a shame it didn't "click" for you yesterday but I can understand how you felt after rushing to get there with hardly any sleep.
And what a gentleman Chris (Golfmmad) is. Always ready with a smile and an encouraging word. Keep at it 'cos that handicap will come down. Remember...make the 150 yard markers your friends.. ;) ;) ;)
Will definitely be organising something again, and you three guys are more than welcome to come along and join up with us. It was a pleasure to play with you. A shame that I was "clock watching" all the way round, I hate it when you have to dash off and I had this in the back of my mind all day. Next time I will make sure I don't have anything going on in my head to distract me too much.
Clive....I think the biggest mistake you made all day was not buying that Benny Driver mate. ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)

Thanks once again lads, thoroughly enjoyable.

Hehe.. this just about sums it up mate. I think everyone wanted everyone else to play well and I like that. It was competitive without wanting anyone to play badly.

I REALLY enjoyed it. I did feel like I had the weight of stack and tilt on my shoulders (which is not so good as it's supposed to be on your left side :D) just to kinda prove that it works. Having been a conventional swinger of the club 3 months ago I'm pretty pleased how it stood up considering the abnormality of the day for me. Despite making 3 birdies there were definately a few others that went begging, 5 or 6 would have been nice ie: I can't believe that Smiffy and I both bogied the 11th from where we were, but such is the way with golf, I was only thinking points and not really score, such is the way with stableford. Next time maybe..... :D

Anytime you guys want a game feel free to PM me.

Regards.....

@Smiffy,
Devon is a definate possiblility but it comes at the end of the kids school holidays so I'll have to clear it with the missus. Can't find a course guide for it on the web, got a link?

being a member at Chartham Park can confirm that must have
been some shot on the 16th.

are you boys sure you hadn't had a few pints before ?, never even heard a cow there let along seen any !

Well, they seemed to know their way around, and had the etiquette to keep off the faiway, although I think one of the faiway bunkers had a visit, and maybe a calling card or two were left in the rough. I'm glad I wasn't just teeing off - Water to the right, and a herd of cows to the left. narrows the margin for error a bit :)

PS if you're a member, how come you couldn't make it ? I think we'll need at least a doctor's note next time. ;)

That was some superb shot he hit. As I said, a pro would have been proud of it. Ball ended up pin high just on the fringe and a great putt saw a 4 for 3 go on the card.
I was right cheesed off on that hole. I hit a superb 3 wood and left myself between a wedge and 9 iron in. I decided to err on the side of caution and took the 9 but eased off it a bit and caught it a little fat. Luckily I gave it enough anyway and left myself a 20 footer for a birdie. Looking up a little early on my first putt and scuffing it saw me chuffed as monkies to walk off with a stupid bogey.
Same on the next bloody hole...my nemisis hole that is. I haven't scored a point off the bloody thing on the last 3 or 4 outings so yesterday decided to take plenty of club. Hit a 7 iron to pin high, another three putt saw me just take one point off the poxy thing.
I was worried about that hole from the moment we teed off the first....

It's in Cornwall actually James!!
I sent you a link to the clubs website earlier today, but it's not brilliant...it doesn't tell you an awful lot at all about the course.

Here's a link to it via the UK GolfGuide website which will give you players reports etc.

As we said to you yesterday James, it's a nice course, not overly long I'm afraid but quite tight in places and a few holes with some water to play with your mind.
You have to plot your way around it rather than smash the living daylights out of the ball.
Whenever we have been down there before it's always been in very good condition and we have been well looked after by the staff there.
Rob

Glad you had a great time guys. Just a shame that I couldn't join you for this one.

Just to confirm an earlier comment, if you have been sitting on the sidelines and not joining in with a forumer's meet, just do it. It's great fun, great guys with a common interest, and usually just a little bit competitive - brings out the best in people. :)
