I purchased a full set of G425 Ping irons approximately 2 years ago and have been very happy with them until now when I have discovered a crack through the centre of my 7 iron club face (see photos attached). I play on average 3-4 times a month and am now left with an incomplete set of clubs ! Can anyone provide any advice on this and is the distributor in the right to reject my claim ?

Could be due to a bad casting causing weak spots. Have actually seen a few of these over the years with Ping,
My brother had it on his iron, different model to yours it’s no overly common but happens nonetheless.

He had his a similar about of time. The answer is to reach out to Ping directly or through and authorised Ping retailer, they’re pretty good and will usually either repair or simply replace the faulty iron.

The face on these is supposed to be a "Hyper 17-4" stainless part mounted in the head, in my simple mind that's a separate element, the crack on your head suggests face and frame are a single casting, could it be a forgery?

I have the i500 and had them well over a year (maybe more but can’t remember exactly now). The PW had an approx 5mm split. Took it back to the shop and they sent it back to Ping who just replaced it for me.

Won’t be a forgery even a quick google shows Ping have had several batches of these irons crack due to issues with the casting

Your claim is against whomever you purchased the irons from, not Ping.

If you bought them brand new then speak to the retailer and tell them that the 7-iron, having cracked within 2 years, is not fit for the purpose for which it was sold. They should contact Ping and sort you out.

If you bought them second hand from a reputable dealer like GC4C then contact them and they will sort something out.

If you bought them second hand from a private seller then there isn't much you can do. That's why they were cheaper than the previous two options.

At 2 years old, I don't think its the retaillers responsibility, but the manufacturers. However, knowing the way Pingoperate, I would go through the retailler as they would be the best to liase with Ping and have it sent back for checking and hoepfully sorting. Ping wont deal direct with the public.

From a legal standpoint, it's always the retailer's responsibility to the consumer and the manufacturer's responsibility to the retailer.
In the Consumer Rights Act, which legislates our rights, we have no contract with the manufacturer.

True, but what if the manufacturer guarantee is 2 years. Is good will required?

I guess that would depend upon whether you were the original owner and whether the guarantee was transferable.
If you're the original owner of a set of irons and one of them cracks after 5 years then a 1 or 2 year guarantee isn't necessarily relevant. The club head is made of steel and shouldn't be cracking inside 5 years with normal use. You probably won't get a full refund or new for old replacement but the retailer, working with their supplier, should be expected to make good in some way.
