Coverage of Middle aged fat bloke golf in Golf monthly! or lack of it

But on a serious note, how awesome would that be! I'm sure one or two (thousand) people would purchase the mag for my pages!!:)

Could include a review on the best curry houses in Liphook...at least the ones that would take us back.... Aztecs could do the bit about which curry houses serve the best English food..........

How about a Gay, vegiterian, ginger bikers, against capatilism, section. Oh! who are fat and scratch their balls (or beavers depending on gender)

I would like to see a sensible golfing on a budget section especially in these tough times

Instead of £300 driver tests how about finding that gem of a second hand driver, a review of the best older clubs that you may pick up secondhand.
Best budget ball section
Best budget golf course
Golf clothing from non golf outlets
etc etc

I think this was done before a few golfers were all given a budget to kit themselves out and the results were interesting.

Having a section on "older" gear would be to me more interesting than just reading about the new stuff. a bit like reading gear reviews on here

Golf on a budget would be very helpful in my opinion in particuler to new arrivals thinking of getting their first set of second hand clubs etc

I really like this idea, but we have to remember that this does run the risk of offending current advertisers

What.........I would have thought the difference betwen a review and adverts were clear. Asda might start using GM to front there new golf apparel. Do you think taylormade or titleist would pull the plug because of articles on second hand gear...I dont think so.

Do you not think that driving sales away from mainstream brands (that do pay to advertise) in an effort to promote a company or brand is a risky move. I'm all up for the article but advising away from key brands that support the industry is risky.

If we are going down the credit crunch route then I would like some knitting patterns for hats and tanktops please :)

If I wanted to read a review on a club that came out three years ago, I can google it. Why do I need to wait til it comes up in a magazine?

Best trousers for under a tenner? Charity shop.

Best water proofs for under a tenner? Cheap umbrella.

I agree with your comment however looking up online reviews can also be misleading

How many times have people purchased a new club reviewed it during the honeymoon period next week sold it on and now using something else. I think many of us have been guilty of this at some time

However if the reviews were carried out by the Pros / testers as they do the new gear i think the results would be more helpful and many of us would find that helpful when trying to find replacement gear.

The comment about cheap trousers and umbrellas is missing the point, its not about where to get the most cheap inferior gear my idea was to get good alternatives without always having to buy the major brand names. Maybe more of a review of the lesser known brands in such a way that has been shown with Ben Ross and MD Golf gear

I know often it comes down to marketing budgets and advertising but i would be keen to know if GM have ever run an article such as this before or looked into :D

Such an article would not hold my attention long.

I also think if you Can afford to spend a fiver a month on a golf mag, you wouldn't necessarily be shopping in the bargain bin.

Golf is about lusting after kit you cannot afford, and played in a location you cannot afford, with players you try to emulate, but will never get near, and tuition by the clueless.

That may be for you but i am sure not for everybody ?

What about beginners starting up, retired on a fixed income etc etc

You keep taking the idea back to the extreme, who said bargain bin gear or such ?

What about £300 drivers that are last years model, is that bargain bin gear ?

We will have to agree to disagree me thinks :)

While I can see some logic in what Wolfman is saying when it comes to doing a feature on 2nd hand clubs how far back to you go. The last incarnation, the one before that, or some bargain set off e-bay from 20 years ago. Any of those would suit a beginner and clearly there isn't the room to feature that many options. It doesn't have to be about the cheapest option being inferior either. Matalan, Primark etc all do some trousers and polo shirts that wouldn't transgress any club rule books and you could probably get a pair of trousers and polo for £15 max. Not sure I'd want to read a feature on the latest line in Primark though when they have their own website and stores I can go to
