Courses in Durham

Blimey. The 9th is a tough hole, but 5 groups is taking the biscuit. Shame you didn't play the 10th too, one of the more daunting tee shots you'll find.

No society, all members from what I could tell.

I'm a member at Brancepeth, and your description is so unusual that I checked. If you were there on Monday, they shouldn't really have taken your money, because the local police were holding their championship on that day. It was inevitable they'd be slow, and you should have been told. I'd be inclined to ring the pro shop and complain - they might offer you a courtesy round another time.

I was booked in for 3.08 but teed off just before 3 as the pro told me to go whenever I was ready. The build up of groups on the 9th were all members as I got chatting to a couple and they all knew each other. I suspect the backlog was further up the course which would tie in with what you have said. It was half 5 when I bailed.

Poor really as although I booked through Teeofftimes I did look on the visitor booking page on the club site and it looked like a fairly quiet day. Certainly no mention of a big corporate day.

Well, sorry you had a bad experience. Great pity, becasue in my opinion it's one of the two or three most interesting courses in the region, and the 8th, 9th, 10th sequence is exceptional.

Really sorry you weren't able to play the whole course. I played there yesterday in the Durham Veterans' Open and it was magnificent. Located in the Castle's former deer park, you hardly see any houses, cars etc. as you go around the course. The fairways were like walking on carpet, it must be one of the best courses in the area.here is a view of the 9th green.
