Have46, 52 and 58. The latter 2 are Vokey with low bounce since i rarely take a divot and these were recommended for a shallow angle of attack.
Like the title says, a couple of wedge questions.
First, I'm looking to sort out my lofts, bounces etc as the chop, buy, sell and change since I started has left me with a 45 deg PW, then a 54, a 56 and a 58. Any recommendations that people have on wedges? Not looking to break the bank but do appreciate a quality club if it's worth it.
Second one is more a clarification about bounce angle options. As I can see many cases where I might be chipping or pitching off both tight, hard lies and fluffy grass/sand, should I mix it up and include both low and high bounce clubs?
I'm a low bounce guy anyway. But, unless you have plenty of spare cash and time to practice, I'd recommend the low bounce approach for your situation. Low bounce will work on either sort of course, while medium/high bounce will only work really well on the soft surface. I'd far sooner have a 'same technique' approach than have to spend time adjusting to supposedly different types of surface! :ros on the other hand will chop and change according to the surface or their mood!
medium bounce will work just fine on firm ground.
low bounce wedges are next to useless if you are a digger in winter.
you should see some of the divots I can take with a low bounce 60 in winter.![]()

Another vote for ICY Golf here. I really don't think you will get better service or a better fit for wedges ANY where else. He custom grinds the bounce for you, I have a 52 and 58, the 58 has a dual bounce grind allowing the edge to sit flat against the ground even when opened right up. Have had mine a year now and been absolutely over the moon with them. I visited Iain recently for a refinish, it was the first time since purchase even though I could have had them done more often, he gave them back to me looking as if they were brand new. Can't recommend him highly enough. If my son hits his handicap target in the next couple of months, he'll be getting a pair - £75 each or £130 for two if I remember correctly.
On a slight sidetrack, he showed me his new irons too, forged by Kyoei in Hyogo, Japan - the same company that forges Vega. Have to say that I thought they looked damn smart and sexy, and may just book myself in for a test drive when I get my sons wedges sorted.
