Over the weekend we went of a train for a short journey from X to Y in Yorkshire then back again about 3 hours later. Didn't pay a bean. Not our fault, before the dogooders start to shout up. Country living has it's benefits.
The views up there are stunning and air so clean and fresh.

Interesting viewpoint, why wasn't it your fault that you didn't pay for your tickets?

The train from Filey to Scarborough was pay on board only until earlier this year. You would be lucky (or unlucky) if anyone came round to sell you a ticket on the majority of journeys.

You can buy tickets on line. Its a bit like paying your tv licence, you can ignore paying but if you are caught then expect the punishment.

The fly boys from on the Glasgow service see the conductor coming, make their way up the train in front of her/him jump off at the next station and re-board the train at the back. Some have perfected the art. Not sure how they get past the barriers at Central Station though.

As for country living it has it's ups and downs especially if you are poor as transport costs and access to health and education are high for young families.
As a retired person it is the only way I would want to live.
I am 10 to 12 miles away from all the major town services and transport links but close to the hills and sea.
