Cost of today's bounce game £1052!

If I was paying what you guys pay then I would expect the course in pristine condition no matter the weather.

1500 a year to play golf.......... and they wonder why courses are closing and new people arent taking the game up.

With public courses round here costing close to £30 a round at weekends, club memberships aren't as expensive as they might first appear to anyone not familiar with the cost of living in the south east.

More and more clubs round my way are starting to offer various schemes, mainly along the lines of buying credits that you can use anytime but obviously more credits are used on a weekend morning than a monday afternoon. Quite a good idea for some. There a couple of clubs clinging on to thier £1500 joining fee but these are slowly vanishing.

You can't compare the cost of golf down here with the cost in other parts of the country in the same way you can't compare the cost of houses, beer & football season tickets etc etc. Stuff costs more down here, that's just the way it is. It's all very well saying you wouldn't pay it, but if you lived here, you wouldn't have a choice.

Our subs are over £1500 but as Mike says that has a lot to do with local market forces. We are still several hundred pounds cheaper than comparable clubs in a 20 mile radius and a lot cheaper than some of the more well known neighbours we have. Is it value for money? Given the amount I use the place to play and practice, in my mind I am getting good value. It has been a pain being shut or restricted to the front nine only but given the plight of places like Datchet GC and others around the country its only been a small cross to bear. With the weather beginning to pick up, I am sure our green staff will be working hard to get it back into a decent condition as soon as possible. Surely any course that is presented well, plays well and has a good 19th is all you want. Price can be relative

Yup, my round today cost £1052 as I paid my annual sub ( albeit a month early)

I always view the first round of a new season as the full cost and thereafter it's all free. Daft I know but how do those of you who pay annually in one hit think of it?

I played pretty crap too, so got a better rate per shot !!

I think of it the same way as you Chris. The main difference is my annual subs are £330
