Advice please (& please bear in mind I'm not a techie...) Can I connect my TV to my stereo so that I get better sound while watching music videos. It's a flat screen TV with pretty lousy sound. (Ok, I know a sound bar is the way to go, but bear with me).

The hi- fi system has L/R audio-in sockets, and the TV has L/R audio-out sockets (presumably for headphones and/or wired connections to hi-fi) . Could I get & plug in a bluetooth transmitter to the TV and a bluetooth receiver to plug into the hi-fi to make the connection? To a non techie this seems that it should work but will it?

For info, I already have a receiver on the hi-fi so that it can play music off my tablet - which works fine. The thing that puzzles me is that (of those I've seen) neither the transmitter nor the receivers have screens, so how the heck do you make (and indeed know you've made) the connection between the two?

Ta for any help.

Have you thought about a soundbar for the TV? I've got this one and it's the dogs... https://homeavdirect.co.uk/q-acoust...5_89nZARbFbNUs9ZZ2_1c7_klrG_oHaRoCAcEQAvD_BwE

Otherwise I suspect it should work but never sure if you are introducing external bluetooth devices to to bits of kit that are not naturally bluetooth enabled. You don't need a screen as you usually just have to press the correct buttons and it will probably emit a beep/LED change colour or something like that when it connects.

Plug the transmitter in to the headphone socket of the TV (assuming it has one). Would normally be a socket same size a most head phones (rare to see quarter inch sockets these days)

Or you could just get a long phono to phono lead to connect the tv to the hifi

You may need to turn off the bluetooth on the tablet if it has already paired with the receiver. Bluetooth can only pair with one device at a time.

By the way basic soundbars even with bluetooth built in can had very cheaply on ebay.

I sometimes use mine to transmit from the computer to the soundbar.

Similar to @bobmac - My dearly beloved Rotel receiver has 5 pin din input and output sockets. I got a 5 pin din to jack plug converter and plugged the red and white (I think) jack plugs into the headphone socket of my TV. Worked a treat. Got a soundbox for it now - but the Hi-Fi sound was soooper.

Not exactly Bluetooth - more like Longinthetooth.

Ta all so far.

Yes I've thought about a soundbar but practical constraints (ie space) means it's not an ideal solution (not yet anyway). Also thought about a wired connection but the hi-fi & TV are not especially close together & I'd like to avoid trailing cables.
Posts #3 and #5 are the sort of answer I was looking for - question is, how does one effect the actual pairing ? (Or am I being thick?)

Sorry SILH - but is that written in Swahili or something? :) (my brain doesn't comprehend ...)

The TV's manual should tell you whether the TVs audio outs are fixed or variable.
If they're fixed, it will be a line level signal and you'll control the sound from your audio integrated amplifier or preamplifier.
If they're variable, you'll control the sound from your TV's remote.
Neither will be Bluetooth. It's obviously a cable connection.

I don't do either.
I use a separate audio output from the cable box directly to my preamp.

Thus, the audio preamp has inputs for cable TV, DVD/BlueRay, CD, a Sirius XM tuner, and an equalized (RIAA) phono input for my turntable.
I've already been laughed at on this forum for using JBL JRX 225 loudspeakers at home, but they work great with my 70".
I'd love Harbeth Monitor 40.2 speakers, but they're super expensive in America. Not hard to get, though.

I looked into similar tech to allow wireless headphones to be used with in-flight entertainment systems on planes - I think your biggest issue, even if you get it to work, will be a lag between the picture on screen and the sound, which will be painful in terms of lip sync.

Obviously this lag is not a problem when playing music from your phone as there is nothing to get out of sync with.

Aye, perhaps.

But to install truncking - in such a way that it is not visually intrusive - would involve installing it with about 12 corners in the space of about 3m. (Cable would have to cross a large fireplace & ornamental mantlepiece). And I'm sure Mrs B will have an opinion on it. Hence the desire for "cable-free" if possible.

Or you could build a tv cabinet, put the tv on top and the hifi underneath. You've got all weekend and HID can supervise (y)

Thanks. Now that is an issue that never occurred to me. Looks like I'm back to a sound bar or hard wiring - both of which will involve some creative re-arranging of the front room
