Confucius, he say.........

Confuscius also say...

If a man takes no thought about what is distant, he will find sorrow near at hand.

:p

Translates as...

If you try to twack the bejesus off your drive, you'll end up fatting it onto the ladies tee.

I rather liked ...

There are three things which the superior man guards against. In youth...lust. When he is strong...quarrelsomeness. When he is old...covetousness.

D'you reckon Tiger's ever read any Confucius ?

Making a bad practise swing then getting straight up to the ball and putting the same swing on that too!

Was a habit I picked playing on rammed courses on the weekends last summer when you do your damndest to avoid causing the traffic jam to get even worse.

Managed to take 2 1/4 hours to hit 125 balls at the range the other night working on shot routine and tempo yet still bet I manage to do it at least once out on the course today!

I'm a fool too!!!

I am guilty of not taking my medicine, cocking the shot up, then promising myself to take my medicine the next time i'm in trouble...

next time i'm in trouble, i fail to do what i promised myself!

I know i do it, but i just see glory and not the easy shot. Sometimes it comes off, most times it doesn't. Unfortunately, it's hard to put this course management side of things right at the range. It's a mental thing.

Bob, is this the kind of thing a course playing lesson can help with?

I remember after playing a pro-am last year, my short game improved drastically and immediately after a few kind words from the pro after the game. This season, i seem to have managed to forget them all!

Absolutely.
I do this often and its sometimes amazing to see the shots people try, especially around the greens.
I always say
"Why try the spectacular when the simple will do"
It's great to have a bit of fun, but when the card is in the pocket, use your head and your shots.

I have too many swing faults to mention, I don't even know what some of them are yet. Every month my pro gives me something else to fix :)

So far this year I've been working on...

Not taking the club outside the line - Fixed
Not straightening my right leg on the backswing - Fixed
Not dropping the club too far on the inside and getting it stuck - Fixed (unless I get lazy)
Not breaking my left arm on the backswing (too much) - Better
Currently working on a wider take away and the left arm thing above
Soon to be working on - depends how well I do with the current improvements, probably the same thing

Looking at that lot I'm amazed I ever hit a ball straight :)

I am constantly thinking about my swing and try to work on things on the course but only the things I have been told by my pro. If I'm really struggling, I seek him out on the range for a couple of minutes to make sure I'm still trying to do the right thing, otherwise I'll wait till the next lesson. If I'm in a comp I'll try not to think about anything too much unless I'm having a real stinker and my 0.1 is already guaranteed.

I fade/slice off the tee, I can't seem to fix it and I've still not had a lesson about it.

I don't putt very well, but at least i'm trying to do something about that.

My scores have come down though, so it isn't like I'm standing still :)

I look for the ball flight before I have hit it. As a result I get a poor contact off the bottom edge or toe. I have tried to stop this for 25 years, and it is still a work in progress. Can't see how lessons would help. Sorenstam was able to hit the ball well like this. It doesn't work for me.

Always strive to improve myself, but not to the point of distraction. I know that when I think about it too much, it goes to ratsh1t, so trust the swing on the day, and see what gives.

I'd like to think this is my approach. As a lady of mature (did I say that?) years, I don't plan on getting to single figures, but reckon I could still get down below 20 (23 now). Had a couple of lessons 2 years ago that changed my set-up, but I tend to revert to bad habits. Now I go to an open group lesson at local range from time to time where the pro will suggest a few tweaks. Now concentrating on a) course management (not doing stupid stuff where it can be avoided) and b) putting. Think a lot of it is mental though (on some days, truly mental!)

Too many things I've worked on. Swing is 10 times better than 12 months ago but always something to improve.

Always helps when your good mates with a PGA Pro and play once a week with him usually. I appreciate I'm very fortunate in this position but I do get the thoughts of 'how on earth have you hit it that far' and 'how the heck have you put it that close from there' which makes me feel insignificant to say the least.

And I get accused on working on too many things!!!

:) Homer, we haven't met yet, but reading this forum I get the impression that as far as golf is concerned, you and I may be cut from the same cloth ( must be something about Fulham fans :))

Thats my trick. Especially on shorter putts, chips and pitches.

Can't even imagine the amount of times I've hit a 6 foot putt while looking at the cup. Seen it go long and left far too many times not to have been scarred by it.

Also seem to have a natural talent for not putting a score together. That skill definatly eludes me.

At the moment im only 6 rounds old with my new clubs and im struggling a little with distance awareness.....Iv had wilson Di7's and the lofts were very strong and since changing to the new clubs i feel like im hitting iron for iron the same if not further than the old set which kinda has me puzzled.....
I find i struggle with the wind alot....Not being able to pick the right club and how far left or right of the green i need to aim at to compensate for it.Also alot of our greens have trouble behind them which can play havoc if you decide to take a little more club than you need.
Iv dropped my driver from the bag as it was loosing me at least 6 shots a round.
I was just a little too erratic with it....
Other than that iv never been one to get into the technical about my swing or technique much i just tend to step up and let fly.....That way my minds pretty clear on the tee....
