Took up golf at the beginning of last year and had about 5 or 6 lessons, then played most of last summer through till about October, made some improvment over the year and managed to card a 93 on my local course just before the cold winter weather set in. Was really looking forward to getting back out there this year and trying to improve, but as soon as i got down the range i seemed to have regressed, i could hardly get the ball of the deck, just topping everything, played at my local course and was absolute garbage, walked off the 18th in bits with my confidence shot. After being bit big time by the golf bug last year i was prepared to jack it all in, then my old man suggested having a lesson to see if i could sort out my problems.
I couldn't afford one on one lessons, but after much searching i found a group lesson at the Cranfield Golf Centre at Chadwell Heath, the lessons were actually aimed at beginners, but i thought that would probably suit me as i was no better than when i first picked up a club 12 months ago, went to my first lesson last Monday and the pro just started with the basics, stance, grip and swing, immediately he told me that i was very round-shouldered(sat at computer allday) so got me to stick my bum out and straighten my back, he then took one look at my grip and changed that as well. Wow, started to follow the drill he gave us and immediately started hitting high straight 7irons, i was just stood there with a big grin on my face, must have looked a right simpleton. Had the odd duff shot, but out of the 60 balls i had, i must have made 40 really good connections. Went to my second lesson last night and we worked more on the swing, again, i couldn't believe the improvement, talk about a 'eureka moment'. The course of 4 lessons was only £27 and i would quite happily have paid that for the first lesson alone, can't wait for lessons 3 & 4 which will look at driving and chipping.
Playing my local course on Saturday and i can't wait, i'm like a little kid waiting for Xmas.
Anyway, apologies for the long, self indulgent post, just wanted to share my experience, in case there's anyone out there who's going through the same thing i went through a couple of months ago, can't recommend lessons highly enough if you are.
