conceding a putt

Thanks, very useful to know

Oddly having discussed it but it having never happened to me as best I could recall, the situation came up in a 4BBB match two weeks ago. On a par 3 my mate had a 6 footer for a 5 and on exactly same line I had a 3 footer for a 3. Our opponents (both played 4) should have given my mate his putt. But didn't. As it happens they mucked up and I had two putts for 4 to win the hole so they conceded.

There is a guy at our place who is a county Referee and was playing in a 4 ball match play. Their 2 opponents were 20 and 10 foot away and the one 10 foot away had played 1 less shot. They had similar lines of putt and the one 20 foot away said I will play first to give you a line. His opposed conceded the putt.

This is just an aside but you can concede a putt a any stage

Not at all.....as you say 'it felt like the right thing to do'.
You obviously enjoyed the game and it was sporting. You must have felt that it would be a hollow victory if he missed it on a temp.

Pity there is not more that think like like you Hogan, a generation and values thing I think.

Thanks @DFT

And don't get me wrong @BladeP - I can tell you that inside I wasn't jumping up and down with joy. - in fact I was well P'd off with myself as I should have skooted it and I really want to win a comp at my club as I haven't done so yet. But we'd had a b****y good match and I really didn't want him to miss it - that will probably sound daft to many; but I didn't. Even if he had missed it I would have struggled to win the last two holes.

Besides - it was only the winter singles k/o, I might have acted differently if it had been the semi-final of the main club singles k/o - but I'll cross that bridge if and when I come to it.

Meanwhile I can now focus on winning the Winter League :-)

I asked my original question to see what the general feeling would be - as much because my opponent was a bit surprised that I had conceceded - to the extent that he checked with an 'are you sure?'. 'Yup - you won't miss that - your match - well played' says I.
