well had a message today and we have to work 7 days over the next 10 weeks, as I work Monday to Friday it means losing 7 Saturdays/Sundays, great eh :)

it should be an option, not bloody compulsory!!!

oh well, its a job at the end of the day just really winds me up.

I AM NOT A NUMBER, I AM A HUMAN BEING!!!!

what with trackers on vans, stats galore on performance we cant even have a crap without someone ringing us and asking why we arent on site

sorry, just had to have a little rant :) (got some beers so all will be good with the world in a short while)

overtime is optional and not compuls,as long as you adhere to your contract you are withing your working rights. they can only ask you to work ot they cannot force you.

One way of looking at it is the cash at the end of day,but its optional, and as long as you do a reasonable amount over the year they can't force you.

nope, in our contract its classed as 'business needs' and aslong as within eu working time directives its fine

unfortunately our new rota's and contracts are pish but the union done sod all and rolled over to have their tummy tickled

I agree the money is nice but after 5 days of graft I need a weekend to spend time with the kids and relax, 1 day a week is not enough to spend time with family, gf, pursue hobbies and so forth

ah well, will just do as told I suppose and pay extra tax, NI and student loan and get a few extra quid myself

Think of all the shiny gear you'll be able to buy with the extra wedge. Actually once you've paid for dinner for the wife and a few treats to keep her sweet whilw you're slaving away you'll be lucky to get a game any time soon. Have to say mate it sucks and I feel for you!

I've been in the same situation and I sympathise.

It's a real $h1t feeling knowing that you will have no life for the time detailed apart from work and sleep.

It's one thing getting "Think of the cash" and "think of all that new golf gear you'll be able to buy" comments. It's another thing having to do the graft.

I know. After it's all done, you'll be well knackered, ready for a break.
Oh, and yeah, you'll have lots of dosh!

In the helpful spirit of the forum, if you let me know which day, I will pop round and look after your gf for you!

haha, cheers Chris I am sure she will gladly oblige ;)

its wierd but I dont mind when we get a text asking for volunteers and I will probably do 1 or 2 Saturday or Sunday mornings a month then (can do 5hrs or full day optional), being told we have to and no half days only full feels crap and makes me loath to do it...

I cant buy any more shiny gear HJS as spent too much already and cant hit that very well :D

Even though you have signed you contract, if they ask you to work in excess of 48 hours per week, you need to sign an additional waiver to agree to work above the EU working time directives, you are also entitled to a minimum amount of rest, which is calculated with reasonalbe travel time taken into account.

Speak to any citizens advice they have employemnt law specialists, I'm sure they cant make you work additional, only alternative duties in line with business needs.

But like you you say its a job, and the extra money. At my place we atre not allowed to wrk in excess of our agreed hours, but then I work for 65th best employer in the country (they reckon, not me)

Er. Get your finger out and do the time. In the current ecconomic climate you should be glad of the extra wedge that will be coming your way. I've had no pay rise for three f'i years and have reigned back on all extras. F'me i'm even walking to f'in work now. You should be glad that your companys doing so well. There are a load of Poles that can pop over and do your job if you want mate.
