From a rules perspective is it possible to use the same round and play it under a pairs betterball format and individual stableford

I play in this dual format sometimes for society golf and it works fine as its more social golf than the strict rules applied under other comps but I was thinking that in theory can it actually work having a playing partner who is also a fellow competitor when considering certain areas of the rules such as advice & equipment etc?

Dont think this is allowable as there would be a conflict of interests and using some pairs rules would cause an individual penalty.
Although im sure many do play like this quite happily on there friendly roll ups.

you have both focused on the problem area.

however this can be resolved by ruling it an individual stableford format with scores subsequently combined if you really want to. you can of course do just about anything (Texas Scrambles being an example!) and it's only really if you wish to involve an individual Q event that things need care - better all round to avoid any Q element, in which case you could just play it in the same vein as a society event :)

quite frankly the whole point of pairs BB is to play pairs BB on the course, with active partner discussions, playing decisions etc etc and it makes little sense to make such combinations - better to give more team prizes, hidden holes etc

What's a hidden hole?

What's a hidden hole?

whilst I prefer Bob's response, it's actually when you give prizes for the best teams score on, say, the 4th,8th, 11th and 16th holes combined - but don't tell anyone which holes they will be until afterwards.

designed to keep people focused and involved even if they have had a few bad holes.
