coloured wooden pegs

Hi folks
im relatively new, and do thrash my way around the course. but what are the coloured wooden pegs for. im presuming some mark out of bounds etc.

They tell you where to tee off - either that or your playing Mastermind and not golf ?

No... not those ones ha ha... the ones round wooded areas ditches. seems to be marked different colours, I.E. Yellow

White posts signify Out of Bounds, if you ball comes to rest beyond then you have to replay the shot and add to strokes to the score.

Red and Yellow posts signify a penalty area, best get your self a rule book to understand your options are if you ball comes to rest in a penalty area.

Some posts are distance marker posts (we use blue for such), some posts might be multi coloured and you need to check the local rules for what they mean. We use very short blue posts to denote where the sprinkler pipes run, short white posts with green tops to denote a No Play Zone.

It doesn't matter what colors stakes or chalk lines are, or what language signs are written in.
They all mean the same thing--"lift, clean, and place or take a free drop in the fairway area."
If they don't mean the above, it's the fault of the course for not stationing somebody there to tell us that.
