Hi, new to this so please go gentle, I have started playing at a lovely 9 hole course where I believe the course and facilities are Looked after by the owners and the ‘club’ is ran independently. I presume this is quite common at other non private clubs? My question is is it un heard of setting up another club within the club where we can harness the new golfers who have taken up the game in Covid times with comps and events tailored to them without upsetting the old guard?

When you say the club is run independently, presumably someone is already responsible for administering handicaps and club competitions? If so, I’m not sure why there is a need to run a “club within a club” - it’s unnecessarily bureaucratic and won’t promote harmony.

There’s certainly no reason why you can’t organise roll-ups with the newer members, but my view is that the whole reason for joining a golf club in the first place is to be a member in an inclusive environment. Whilst not suggesting for one moment you’re trying to create a clique, what you are proposing is likely to do just that, and I can assure you that cliques at golf clubs cause nothing but trouble.

Better that the club organise some “new member” nights for the recent joiners, to try and integrate them into the existing set up.
