To get my handicap at my club i know i need to hand in 3 cards, but do they have to be done by another member or can i get anyone to do it who plays the round with me?
because there is only 1 guy i know who is a member and he is not available for ages and can only play in the week, and i really want to be able to enter comps.

thanks in advance

I can only tell you that my club wanted 3 cards signed by another member (juniors were allowed to sign them also). However, they did have comps for new members
that are intended to get you a handicap but obviously you cannot win these matches till you have played three times.
I should add that i got speaking to the club captain and he also offered to play a round with me to get a card signed.

At my club it has to be a member.

However won't the club let you play in the competitions for handicapping purposes, viz. you will not actually be particiapting in the competition as such but will be playing in one of the allocated tee-times with people who are.

At the end of the round you simply submit a card marked for 'for handicap'.

Wouldn't have thought they'd have an issue with this.

I think it has to be a member that marks your card.

If it seems like a friendly club, ask if you can put a note on the notice board asking for a game.
A guy I know did that at our club and had plenty of offers.

okay thanks guys i am going up for a round on thursday so will ask about it then and see what they say. i really want to get a handicap so i can play in comps but i didnt know how to. i did play in the junior comp the other week to get handicap sorted but we got to 14th and it started thunder & lightening so we went back.

thanks guys for the advice i have spoken to the junior manager and have organised to have a round with him who will give me a handicap from that, lets hope i play well!!!!

at my club it has to be a member who sign the cards

when you join the club they give you a list of 12 or so people who are avalible to play at different times so you would be able to get your cards in and meet a few people in the club, so when you turn up around the club you would see a few faces you know

try phoning the office and ask if they know anybody who play durning the week,if the person in the office is like the lady we have you will get a few names

good luck

We have all whinged about trying to attract new blood, but some of these rules for getting a card marked seemed set on making life as hard as possible. Committee members? Lists of available people? Not exactly enticing.

At my club as long as you play as a three ball as you would in a competition you can get your card signed by any full member (ok I concede 5 day and junior members!!) and you are perfectly entitled to enter a competition and have your card marked for handicap purposes. Surely clubs need to be making it as easy as possible for newbies to get a handicap and get fully integrated into club life.

homer, you have to consider that some of us literally come in from the cold. I knew no-one at the club. Being offered the contact details of people prepared to get you going is a huge bonus.

you aren't restricted to just those on the list but it is a start.

Homer, I think I know what you mean.
Why cant you just have 'normal members' sign the 3 cards, why does a member of the committee have to sign one as well.
Aren't 'normal members' trustworthy enough to sign all 3?
