Club Clean Service

How many of you have seen these operatives at your own club or at an event and had your clubs cleaned by them?

Did they offer a free service at that time as a day rate was paid by the organiser or was it a pay as you go scenario per bag of clubs and if so how much did you pay or was it simply a donation bucket?

I've booked the company myself at some charity events that I have supported last year and always had an excellent service and feedback and I have also come across them at other clubs around the country and again they cleaned my clubs superbly for either nothing (prepaid) or at most £5.00.

I am looking at a change of direction and investing in becoming a franchise owner of the brand Club Clean so your views and experiences good or bad will be most welcome.

Fish, used these guys a few times, £5 a set including grips, got to say they did a great job and i'll certainly use them again next season.

We had a machine for a couple of months at my previous club, if think from memory it was about £3 to clean clubs. It wasn't used much, hence only being there for a couple of months.

There's a lot of people who take pride in cleaning their clubs so I'm not sure it would interest them. There's also the lazy gits like me who can't be bothered to clean them, so it could be of interest to my type.

I've seen them once before, was £5 for the full set including grips as mentioned above. The queue was a few deep pre tee off for the shotgun day I was playing at, and believe it or not, the guys had gone after the round! Surely, you'd stay till the end or come back for the end to get more business?? I was interested in getting my clubs cleaned after the round and never did!

However, the people who had had their clubs cleaned were impressed!

Why would I pay someone to clean my clubs when I can do it myself? A bit like taking your car to a car wash I suppose. Never done it personaly but I suppose some folk have more money than sense!

Not sure thats a business i would invest in.

We had a guy at the club for a day cleaning clubs. I think the club even paid for it during one of our Opens. Not many bothered even though it was free.

havent seen it but heard about it, isnt it a vibration machine or something? something more than just soap and water cleaning, I've heard it really brings the clubs up nicely.

When I was in Vegas as soon as you pulled the buggy in after your round there were guys who were straight over to your clubs, no asking just started cleaning straight away. They did do a good job and usually got $5 from me for doing it.

In all fairness at the time it was worthwhile, in Vegas you are expected to keep up with the group in front, so its almost a race, so not really any time to clean clubs. Then once you have them in the car again you just won't be bringing them into the hotel to clean each night.

As for at home I like to clean and dry each club as I go.

I do know a local club and 1 of the assistants would clean your whole set and leave them back in your locker for £5. Some would get it done monthly and others weekly.

He would make £40 or £50 extra on top of his wages.

I would think long and hard before investing in this.
It takes me less than 10 mins to clean my clubs.

May work in the South of England but I think the rest of the UK's golfers have more sense than money.

TBH I agree with Doon.

When I was in Vegas there was 5 of us. Myself shared a buggy with my mate the Pro who organised the trip. There were 2 younger guys in another buggy and an older guy with more money than all 4 of us together, no kids, no wife, living the dream.

Myself and my mate got out clubs cleaned. The other 3 had their bags set up ready to just jump of the buggy straightaway and grab bags and start walking.

I can get the younger guys, possibly short of cash but the older guy threw $300 in a night to table dancers whilst he was playing Blackjack, for no return. Yet wouldn't pay $5 to get his clubs cleaned. I know so so many more like him too.

I don't think it's a regional thing... some people just find it quicker to get someone else to do it?

I enjoy cleaning my clubs. I find it therapeutic and also clean my dad's because he can't be bothered. Even use a can of duster gas to clean out and help dry the cavities. Which reminds me I need to get some more! Maybe at an exclusive club it has a place but certainly can't think of many tracks near me where the membership would be bothered. Maybe as a charity fund raiser but that's about it.

The manufacturers wanted to try it out at a course I managed.
They left the machine for free use over two weekends and hardly anyone used it.

1] How can you make money from something folk will not use even if it is free.
2] If they were so good why are there so few about 20+ years after the initial launch.

I have seen them at some events and don't think the price of £5 is off-putting but I've never had them cleaned as I don't trust them to look after my clubs like I do - bit like a car wash I suppose. I guess if I could get assurances about the method/materials used and that they don't damage the clubs but...even then would probably not risk my shineys!

In fact in recent times I have twice had that moment of "oh no my car's been nicked" and all I could then think was "what about my clubs"!

Never trust a man with dirty shoes and/or dirty clubs.
It takes no more than 15-20 mins to thoroughly clean and dry a set of clubs,i can't think of a reason why anybody would have somebody else do it for them,except for laziness.

I live in the "prosperous" South East and have only ever seen a club cleaning service once and I doubt they made £20 that day!

I guess if the overall verdict is not to bother...!

Living in a 2nd floor flat, where I don't have an easy to access water source to the garden, means getting the clubs out in the living room or kitchen which is a bit of a pain, hence someone doing it for me makes me life easier, rather than so many who think it is laziness.

What is the problem with cleaning them in the kitchen ?
A bucket or bowl of warm soapy water,a nailbrush,a sponge,and a towel.

One of the golf days I play each year there is a club cleaning service on offer (by hand), after the round I leave my clubs with the lad and my car keys and whilst we have dinner/prizes etc my clubs are cleaned and put in the car and my keys returned to me, happy to pay a fiver for the privilege as are many others, I expect there is a market for this but a relatively limited one
