Club Championship

Handicap Competition will follow the Club Championship Comp. There will be a marker/s for the one lady participating in the 36 hole Club championship. This problem hopefully will be for this year only, as a number of our lower handicap ladies, who would normally enter the Club Championships are otherwise engaged. Such a shame that as a club we have just one lady entering such a prestigious competition.
The club are taking steps to recruit ladies, including juniors.

This is really odd.

The club champs at both my old and new club (and I am sure many others have same experience) have both a gross and a nett prize. They all play together and are competing in both comps effectively, over 36 holes. At end of it, lowest gross and lowest nett is awarded, with the Club Champ the lowest gross winner. Why can they not just do this at your club? OK, the scratch golfer will probably win the gross prize each year and be club champ, but there is really no requirement have her play in a completely separate competition to everyone else.

: the act or process of trying to get or win something (such as a prize or a higher level of success) that someone else is also trying to get or win

So whilst there can be a championship there cannot be a competition.

I agree. Indeed, is it even possible to have just one competitor??
