We have just one person who has entered our Club Championship for this year and wondered if this competition can still go ahead with just the one entrant.

Nothing in the Rules of golf prohibit the competition from proceeding. It's up to the Committee in charge to determine if they wish to continue with it.

Scratch player who has won this competition for many years. Unfortunately since the introduction of WHS, handicaps have increased and with an ageing ladies membership and this comp over 36 holes participation has dwindled, pleased to hear though that a local decision can be made and that once again this lady can be the Ladies club champion for another year.

Could you run a handicap competition concurrently with the gross?

Are steps being taken to try and recruit more female members, including juniors?

Handicap Competition will follow the Club Championship Comp. There will be a marker/s for the one lady participating in the 36 hole Club championship. This problem hopefully will be for this year only, as a number of our lower handicap ladies, who would normally enter the Club Championships are otherwise engaged. Such a shame that as a club we have just one lady entering such a prestigious competition.
The club are taking steps to recruit ladies, including juniors.

Will they actually make her play 36 holes? Surely just do 18 and call it a day. Even 18 seems overkill for one person but I get that they have to go through the motions.

As far as I am aware she will be doing 36 holes as per the rules of the comp.
Fair enough, it just seems extreme and a bit pedantic. In reality, they could allow her to tee off, shake hands with whoever is there and walk in. 36 holes against no one is just filling time for no real reason.

12 played in our 36-hole ladies championship last year. Par 71 for ladies.

Winner 144
Tie for second on 179
Fourth 183

There is just as much a competition for 2nd, 3rd etc if you are sporting.
Its a sport. Be sporting. Take part.

As above. Always a chance of a DQ.

It's still a round of golf. Maybe someone will play with her even if they've not entered the comp.
