Im not sure there are rules for this or more after guidance .
Normally my course is ok in the winter but with the non stop rain a few of the holes have been closed .
I got a winter knockout match play in a few days and got to give the guy 5 shots .
As it is at the moment , holes 6,16,17 are shut with hole 6 being a shot hole.
My proposed suggestion to my opponent with be play the 15 holes + holes 1,2,3 again , with giving him a extra shot on hole 3 (SI 6 ) either the first or second time we play the hole ( not sure if it should be first or second time ??)

My understanding with match play you can do what you want more or less as long as you both agree before you start.

Hopefully they will all be open by Thursday but 16,17 do take a while to dry out.

Novel solution, ask the club? They will give you the correct answer and make sure that everyone is playing to the same set of rules. Asking on here will get you loads of "my club does it like this" and " I think it should be this way".

Check with the comps committee

As an example we play the course that’s open on the day and over the holes that are open

So if a hole is closed then that’s just bad luck

We actually discussed this recently on another thread. The common consensus seemed to be that you just play the holes that are open, and if a shot hole is closed then so be it, they don't get that shot on a different hole instead. So in your situation you'd be playing a 15-hole match and giving him 4 shots.

However - as above - it makes sense to check with your club as I'm sure they will have a stated blueprint of what to do so that all matches in the competition are handled the same way.

Your "understanding" may not be complete. Rule 3 in the Rules of golf describes match play, and includes this,
"But if the player and opponent agree not to apply the Rules or a penalty they know applies, and either of those players has started the round, they are both disqualified under Rule 1.3b."
Players are expected to play by the Rules (Rules of Golf and definitions) and comply with all Terms of the Competition adopted by the Committee (which can include the number of rounds and the number and order of holes in a round).

You should consult the Terms of Competition and if the answer is not there contact the committee in charge of the competition.
