cleaning clubs

I have noticed a few small rust spots on my irons, on the hosel mostly. Would a gentle rub with steel wool be misguided?

My MP37 blades sometimes get small spots on the face from the iron covers, but I just use a steel cleaning brush. Once cleaned and dried, I use 3 in 1 oil to coat the clubs.

Probably would be misguided, as the steel is coated & the steel wool will simply in the end make matters worse. There are certain chemical rust treatments that perhaps could be used sparingly & I mean spairingly. Usual rub down with soft cloth to remove excess.

We all use wire & or nylon brushes to clean the face of clubs, but each time we do we actually slowly damage the face & take away its protective layers, slowly but surely we are encoraging the posibility of rust.

I wash my clubs in warm water and dry them, then I use the below to wipe over the heads, shafts and grips. They have loads of benefits but mostly stop the shafts getting rust spots.

You can get a box of 12 packets on EBay for about a tenner and I bought mine in the summer and still have loads let, cleaning 14 clubs takes about 3 wipes and there is 10 in a pack!!

I used to use a small bit of foil from the kitchen to sort out a wee bit of rust on the bike and on shafts of my old irons, maybe try that.
