Me and HiD watching The Snowman somewhat misty-eyed and thinking back to when our kids were just so young and impressionable.

They're now 28 & 30 but it seems like no time ago.

We have a number of family traditions at Chrstmas. The old favourites like "It's a wonderful life" are hunted out and watched. Midnight on Christmas Eve sees a picnic in front of the fire. Christmas morn starts with a normal breakfast then champagne whilst we swap presents.

christmas Day lunch always starts with a toast "to absent friends." And then there's the Queens speech.

tonight will be snacks, including a cheese board and port.

Go out for Christmas dinner(Indian for the last 3years).
Call and see family on the way home, then changed into our comfies, drink & play board games.
Happy day.

Board and/or Word games.

Yesterday it was Call 'em All and Categorically Speaking. Me and Mrs played them with our two children (20 and 23); my Mother-in-Law and my son's girlfriend. Great fun. Not sure what my son's girlfriend thought of it - sounds like family game playing has never been part of her Christmas before - but she absolutely seemed to really enjoy herself.

Today we might have a go at Waddington's Spy Ring board game (from 1965) or Parker Games Masterpiece board game (from early 1970s)

It use to be a Christmas Day lunchtime drink with the old man. Sadly no longer possible. HID and I now going out for Christmas Eve drinks instead, raising a glass to my mum and dad and others, and then the in-laws over on Christmas day before buggering off so we can watch the evening TV in peace. Been a good Christmas so far and the traditions remain intact

christmas is a funny time for me nowadays ,it was always a fun time when the kids were small and what with my wedding anniversary on the 27th dec we had big celebrations for the whole week through to new year ,but things have a habit of biting you in the ar$e as my dad died on the 27 th nine years ago so its now mixed feelings for us .

Yep. The losses build up and loved ones are missed at Christmas just that bit more keenly...

Our tradition is on Xmas evening taking it in turns to each choose a song from YouTube which we then play the video via Apple TV.....typically the same songs come up every year, and it always ends up with a 70's disco fest!!

Been a strange one for me this year and Xmas will not be the same again. Dad diagnosed with aggressive cancer on 23rd December. This Xmas has been one of sadness, comforting and trying to show a brave face coupled with daily trips to hospital. Guessing that is pretty much it for me seeing Xmas as a happy time.

Oh Greg so very sorry to hear that. Thoughts with you and your family.

We ended up with a very competitive family quiz compered by my grandaughter.

There was a fair bit of deciphering of her pronouncing of old pop groups etc which made it even funnier.
As we did not have bleepers we had to put our hands up and shout bleep to be allowed first reply. This was generally after the 'opposition' had shouted out the correct answer without conforming to the 'rules'.
