I'm amazed nobody has mentioned Chris Wood yet, what a fantastic championship he's had again!!

He must be a links specialist, you dont hear from him between the end of July to the middle of July! lol

He played superb today and it looked like he might be in with shout, if only for that bogey on the 18th he'd have been in the playoff too and I fancy he'd have had the game to take it to Cink too.

3 English lads in the top 5 too, I dont think we'll have a better chance for an English winner like this again for a while.

Just 21 yrs old and around 12 feet 6 tall.
He's played a blinder. Nobody really noticed him sneaking up the leader board. Was very close to nicking it.

Methinks the lad has a promising future ahead of him!

Why does Wurzel Gummidge spring to mind when I see him!

Very awkward looking but was hitting it pure today alright.

I think he's had a pretty solid first year on tour. No wins but some placings - nothing like the way Rose sank wihtout trace following his debut in the Open. Looks like an excellent prospect. His nerve is good as well as his golf. Local boy for me - and that hair style shows character!

He's made over 500K this year already so I don't feel bad for him. If he'd not bogied the last then he could be champ right now.... or was that Watson?... or Westwood? :D

To be fair to Wood, he hasn't been a back burner on tour since turning pro last year. He has consistently made the cut, and on more than one occasion finished in the top 10. Yes he performed particularly well this week, but it's not as if it is a completely random jump in form. Based on his results he has been swinging consistently well all year, so he is obviously adept on a range of different courses / layouts.

I have been following this guy's results since the last open. I have not seen him live, only on the TV and by his results etc.

Seams to me that he has a game that suits tough courses, he does not seam to be one of those guys that can frighten the course record one day and bomb out the next, he just has steady rounds with the occasional good one, quite often on a Sunday. Forget it if it's an easy course and the winning score is going to be in the -15 to -20 type area, but if the winning score is going to be around -5 to -10 then he often gets close come sunday.

Good putter which I think stands him in good stead for the future, I'll back a good putter over a 'ace' tee to green guy any day especially in a major.

Will be very interesting to see how he handles both playing in the US and the glass like greens over there. His result at Turnbury putt's him in both the USPGA and the Masters and gets him to 59th in the world rankings, considering those rankings are divided over a min of 40 tournaments and he has only played 20 some then he has a great chance over the next year to get well into the world top 50 and stay there.

Future major winner? I actually think he has a better chance than most of our 'star' players.

That seems like a very fair, and accurate synopsis of Wood's game to me. I certainly view him along similar lines.

Welcome to the forum by the way. :)
