all I try and do is create an identical distance gap bewteen my chipping distance with different clubs. So for example your 7 iron may chip it 3 yards further than your 8 iron and your 8 iron 3 yards longer than your 9 etc. This will probably be different for each person.

I always tend to make a half putting stroke for all my chipping and change my club accordingly rather than my stroke distance. I've been told this enables you to achieve greater consistency. (to do this you will need to get to a point where there is a consistent gap between your clubs, meaning much practice is required)

Although I will add that I am a fairly high handicapper (24) and therfore have not acquired the greatest chipping skills, so you could probably find a better method. But this works for me.

For chipping, I always use my putting grip and try and replicate my putting stroke as much as possible. I also never drop below a 6i for chipping, unless I drop all the way down to my hybrid for specialist shots.

Distance not your concern Tim, but being able to gauge how far each club will get you and being able to consistently hit 2 yard increments. I would practise 5,8,10,12,15,20,25 yd distances with different clubs and see which ones get you the most consistency.

And if you want a nice easy cheat for keeping that wrist action out you can try 2 things - 1) only use your left hand and this will firm up the wrist and 2) find an old sweatband and put this on your left wrist and put the handle in between it and your arm and this will also really make you feel the wrist breaking. Finally, count to 1 after impact before looking for your ball. This stops you from looking up too early, focuses you on your stroke and automatically reduces the tendency to break your wrist.

Keep your sessions short though to give that injury a chance to heal - I'd like that game some time this year!

Chipping....the old favourite pastime of rguk in a previous existence.

I can chip up to 60 yards probably, but I wouldn't recommend it. 5 - 30 should be enough.

When I was young and dashing, I used to chip/pitch/putt at my club for 3-4 hours every Tuesday (Ladies day). One day, a very glamorous and attractive lady came over and enquired about my obsession with improving my game. I said that performing perfectly under pressure was my ambition, in every aspect of my life. She asked if I'd like to visit her at home and share a few secrets......I politely declined the offer, thinking she wanted tips on her short game.....

I think I might have turned down the offer of a lifetime for a naive 22 year old.......damn....... :)

Oh, to have the Sky+ button for life and be able to rewind and do these moments the right way!

I'm sure she would have been interested to hear of the interlocking grip...or even the 10 finger-grip

I wouldnt be thinking about distances for chipping mate, its all about feel. You could have identical shots but play them different cause you felt they should be played different. As someone said earlier just try get them close for up and down. Injured or not you should practise your short game more than just hitting balls!!!
