We'd like to take this opportunity to wish you a Happy Holidays and a very Merry Christmas from all at Golf Monthly. Thank you for sharing your 2025 with us!
I'd like to buy my six year old grandson some clubs. What is available is either rubbish or expensive. How about cutting down a seniors or ladies set? Anyone tried that?
My lad is 5 and he has a set of Masters J range. They are excellent in terms of durability and quality. They dont feel cheap but only cost £80 including a wee stand bag.
Definitely get kids clubs rather than cutting down larger ones as the heads will be too heavy. Start off with a putter and something like a 7 iron to see if he enjoys it. There's no point in forking out for a full junior set if he loses interest.
I donated my sons to the junior section of my local club as what do you do with them otherwise? Ask around as there may be plenty of teenage golfers at your club with junior sets in the garage. I would definitely back up the comments about not cutting down adult clubs. The heads will be too heavy for the kids. The junior clubs are ideal in terms of length and weight.
From my experience, both when I started and with my daughter, all kids want to do is make the ball go in the air so I'd go for a wedge rather than 7 iron.
Tried several options with 'Chucker minor (9) and we settled with US Kids Golf stuff. Great value and designed with kids in mind, specifically in terms of lofts and shaft length/flex. Made his first par last week so we're chuffed
saw these at Manchester golf show last year great kit the 5 year had a go and got a freebie cap, but quite expensive to start out.
I got a jaxx set from DG for £20 in xmas sales, the putter gets abused on the crazy golf course at the range and other than that a 9 iron to start as region says all they want to done is get the ball going forward in the air.
They grow so quick no poit spending a fortune at 6. wait till 9 or 10 with bit more strength.
Another shout for Golphin for kids. Properly developed for kids with weight and sizing etc, my club pro raves about them for the kids. Gonna get my older 2 a set next year when they are big enough!
