cheltenham festival

Shame this is still going on in its current format. Heard 3 more horses died at the "festival" today. On the back of the grand national horse deaths and the whip problems racing really needs to change for the good of the animals.

I lived in Prestbury in the '70s and it was always a nightmare trying to get home after work. From what I remember Irish trained horses always dominated.

Yes, I did it this morning......done my balls in today, lost a fortune but had a great day there.

I am not into racing at all and my work partner does plenty of betting every week. He always insists that we go head to head when the racing is televised such as Cheltenham, Ascot etc

Yeasterday, as usual I got 3rd, 1st, 3rd, 2nd and unplaced to his 3rd and we put the same money on a lucky 15 each with Wm Hill so at least it continues to prove that the "stick a pin in the list of runners" works better than "mm Thats the one I was thinking of doing but he ran poorly at Doncaster" In 15 years he has hardly ever beaten me!

Haha what a load of rubbish, you honestly believe punting is as easy as just picking a name or colour??

Good job you dont punt every week or you'd be bankrupt on that theory.

Living very close to Cheltenham, my wife and I have said for the past 20 years that we MUST go to the races next year and still haven't actually done it. I'm currently working from home with the racing on the telly in the background. Thought I'd put a friendly little each way bet on and the blo0dy thing came in last! On that basis I'm thinking that if we actually DO go next year, it'll cost me a lot of money! :angry:

I don't normally follow the horse racing but seeing as so many free bets were flying around i've had a few on cheltenham. I had darlan yesterday who came second and ladbrokes refunded my free 5 pound bet, since then ive won 80 quid without having to deposit anything! raised my opinion on horse racing massively lol

To me Cheltenham is the best racing in the world,managed to back a couple of winners so far(cinders and ashes) and (Hunt Ball) but did'nt have a look in wednesday,cant beleive Henderson had 4 winners,Blazing Tempo and Sir Des Champs are my bets for today,fingers crossed..

Theres obviously not more too it if the form guide punters are losing a "fortune" .

I`m thinking about a reasonable punt on Long Run at a Ladbrokes generous 2-1,with he`s stamina and the long run(no pun intended but apt) up the Cheltenham hill surely as long as he stays upright he`s the horse to beat.Just cant see Kauto even thou he`s a better jumper getting Long Run up the hill.What do you think guys?.

I am quite unsure about tomorrow, long run wasnt great in his last run, kauto was but then has had the cough and the fall recently. We know long run can beat him as he has done in the past and vice versa. Although it would be naive to look at this as a 2 horse race, Nicholls tends to have his horses perfectly suited for Cheltenham so I have done an ew bet on What a Friend too. Big Bucks was the key for me, if this cough had really affected the stable I think he would of been beaten how ever he stayed on and looked like he had loads more to give, this has now swayed me to Kauto Star and I think Kauto will be favourite come sp. If you are going to go Long Run I would hold off as I think there could be a bit more value to him closer to the race, but dont hold me to that.
