Yep, I'm going on Thursday. Go every year and it's turned into a big day out for a load of us from work. Will be getting to the pub at about 10am for a fry up and homework, before heading up to the course and hopefully winning lots of dosh! We then head into town after. Cannot wait.

Haven't looked at any of the runners yet. Will probably do that on Monday and place my small bets for the week at the same time.

Have a few backed already, going on tips from a mate who is big into the racing

Heres what I have so far

Darlan @ 6/1 in Supreme Novices Hurdle

Shadow Catcher @ 20/1 EW (has came in to 10/1) in Triumph Hurdle

First Lieutenant @ 6/1 in RSA Chase

Harry the Viking @ 6/1 in National Hunt Challenge Cup

Will be doing a couple more bets each day as well

Might just have a few quid on your tips as well:mmm:

I went 7 times in the 90s,at that time i was a compulsive gambler.
Havnt gambled on the dogs or horses for the last 12 years or so,
thank god,it ruined my relationship.
Good luck to all those who have a bet,but rember only gamble what
you can afford to lose.

Yeah I've seen some good stuff from First Lieutenant and fancy a few quid on that at 6/1 should be lovely. That's the only one that has caught me eye and is a must bet.

Shall be wasting some daily cash regardless though

Brilliant! Up there with the best of British sporting events imo. Snow on the hills in 1989 and there to see Dessie win the Gold Cup through the mud. Changed jobs that year, stayed in a pub (Amport Inn) near Toby Balding's yard often frequented by his lads. The landlord won enough to build a swimming pool when Beech Road came home at 50/1 that year!

My portfolio is looking quite healthy at the minute, below are what I've been backing since last year.

RSA:

Sir des champs 6/1

First lieutenant 9/1

Supreme Novices Hurdle:

Gallieo's Choice 7/1

Champion Bumper:

Champagne Fever 12/1

Neptune Novices:

Fred Winter Handicap:

Vendor 7/1

Massive Double at 6/1

I'm getting proper excited now and can't wait for Tuesday.

I love watching the festival on tv how ever I am at work everyday other than Gold Cup day. Usually look at Nicholls trained horses for this festival how ever with the coughing scare recently I am unsure of whether to back them this year. Although I wouldnt like to bet against Big Bucks in the World Hurdle. I think the Gold Cup is really open this year with the Kauto incident and then Long run isnt 100% if you read reports which I think could lead to a surprise winner in it.

According to Henderson he's in tip top shape and them rumours were actually untrue.

Yeah whilst I know hes come out and said it wasnt true, there is usually no smoke without fire.

I'd love to see a top jockey on Long Run because for all the ability stamina it has, it does seem to be very awkward to handle. I think someone like McCoy would have him settled which in turn would help his jumping.

Anything above 2/1 will be a great bet In my eyes.

Kauto Star confirmed today as a Gold Cup runner, great news and should make for a very exciting race.

I've placed my win L15 so I'll go with an EW Value Bet on all selections below for Tomorrows card.

13.30 (Place a Bet with SkyBet and you'll get EW at 1/4 odds Top 5 - Everywhere else Top 3, a few Top 4)

Tetlami (10/1)

14:05 (Place a Bet with Bet365 and you'll get EW at 1/3 odds Top 2 - Everywhere else Top 2 1/4 odds or place your bet with Paddy Power and get any losing Win Bet of upto £100 refunded if Sprinter Sacre wins)

Menorah (10/1)

14:40 (Place a Bet with ToteSport or Betfred and you'll get EW at 1/4 odds Top 5 - Everywhere else doing 1/4 odds Top 4).

Mossley (14/1)

15.20

Binocular (5/1 at Stan James)

16.00

Garde Champetre (10/1)

16.40

Alasi (20/1)

17.15

Carrickboy (12/1)

Certainly the worst first day of a festival since i can remember, quality is far too diluted these days and far too many races gives horses options of avoiding each other rather than fronting up, which is what champion races are meant to be about.

That said, small mug L15 tomorrow of Galileos Choice, Our Mick, Scots Irish and Carrickboy. All 3 odds on shots look proverbial good things but would be surprised if they all win, expect SS maybe the one that lets down the money buyers treble.

Will be watching the days racing later in the day as playing in a winter pro-am, hard to believe id have agreed to play instead of watching the festival even 5 years ago
