Charles Kennedy Dies!

There is some truly awful stuff being posted up here by what seems to be very bitter unionist supporters.
Basically blaming Kennedy's death on the SNP.
They seem to have forgotten that the LibDems ditched him pretty sharpish.

Yet on my football forum which is staunchly SNP virtually all of posts are in praise of the man.

Where on earth have you got that from DfT?

I read plenty of twitter posts yesterday blaming the SNP for his death. Unfortunately some bitter people just can't help themselves from using a poor man's untimely death as a political chess piece to chastise their opponents.

Well you would read stuff on twitter :) hardly the forum for thought through discussion 149 characters or whatever it is. No doubt these same people blame the SNP for Labour's drastic failings in England in the GE - well it is a line of thought I guess.

If Charles Kennedy's death is related to his alcoholism then I am afraid that it is a truth accepted by every alcoholic that the first drink of a relapse could bring the end, and that the only person responsible for taking that drink is the alcoholic himself. Very sad but that is just how it is.

Sad news, always seemed to be a decent bloke, at least by the standards of his fellow politicians. His alcohol problems were well known for years before his public statement. A former MP told me he was well liked but had the nickname 'The Honorable Member for Glenmorangie'. The current crisis for Lib Dems must have disappointed him greatly - he was no fan of the ConDem coalition.

How about from a not overtly biased source? A number of those look to be tongue in cheek, and that completely ignores the point that it's twitter, so it's hardly representative! You get idiots everywhere, twitter just gives them a voice.

Do you only read from this website? If so I fear for you, it it so ridiculously biased that it may distort your views of the No voters/places outside of Scotlan!

I think some mud slinging goes with the political territory. Folk need to understand whilst not being best buddies, Kennedy and Salmond had a reasonable relationship, as did the new MP Ian Blackford, who's words were nicely balanced.

Still, no one can provide the relevant audio clip can they?

Just think of it as leveler to the Telegraph:lol:

People living in the UK are allowed to have different views you know.
I have many friends and relatives living in England and know that some fall for the Telegraph/Sun headlines every time [as many do on here], other have an open mind..

Just a wee update for those enjoying lambasting Lord Eck of HMFC: the journalist who penned the offending article and made the claim about AS and CK/BT has conceded he got it wrong and has withdrawn his claim and apologised.

I await the same folk who went radio rental on all forms of social media withdrawing their somewhat ott claims...

Adi2D - I heard the interview broadcast and it really was quite clear what AS said about CK/BT - it was fine and true - and indeed said rather sympathetically as Salmond knew that the tone and substance of the BT campaign really disappointed CK.

Not a fan of salmond, not by a long chalk, but I'd be genuinely surprised if he used the death of Charles Kennedy to score political points.

I am aware that everyone is allowed different views, don't worry :)

Just because others fall for it, doesn't mean you should! You should embrace the idea of an open mind.....

He didn't - at least not in the interview on R5Live Alex Massie was writing about and for which I understand he has apologised for misrepresentation of what AS said.
