Changing from a premium to mid range ball over the winter months

I don't change between summer and winter, although I have changed my preferred choice of ball this year........ Based on cost. Used the Bridgestone RXS 330 for the last three years, and been hugely happy with it. Unfortunately, now they've become more popular in the market the price has doubled from when I first started using them. Consequently I started looking for a cheaper ball and switched to the Wilson DX3 Soft this summer. A ball that plays as well as the Bridgestone for half the price (£14 approx per dozen), a fantastic ball at that price. Plan to use it through the winter too.

If I have to, titleist velocity for me. I have some dx2's, bridgestones and srixon's to get through first, so may need done more next week ;)

Could always use new premium balls in the summer, and in the winter just use the same ball but some cheaper pearl/grade a balls off ebay? That way you can keep the consistency of the same ball, but not be as annoyed if you lose one.

Just a thought.

I heard on the European Tour podcast (I think) a while back a tip from someone that they recommended lower (or is it higher) compression balls for the winter (whatever the technical term is, higher or lower, you should have one that compresses more) as with the cold weather the ball wouldn't compress as much and if you use a conker it just makes matters worse. Don't know enough about golf balls to say whether expensive equals more compressible ball, but would guess so.
