Celtic Supporters

There is no justification for defending the Celtic fans, their behaviour, singing the songs or having a few daft lads falling for a set up.

By discussing other clubs or incidents deflects from Celtic and their failure over years and years to rid themselves of the part associated with the Club.

Yes it's probably 1% of the fans and yes all clubs have this element but continually making excuses and deflecting away from it, it won't go away.

I wasn't defending anyone, I was putting it in context. The song was disgraceful, but it was a few drunken idiots. Go to a Man U - Liverpool game and you will hear thousands singing "you killed your own fans".

Celtic have done plenty in recent years to crack down on idiots , there have been loads of bannings, but it is impossible to keep out every clown or attention seeker.

This thread is about Celtic fans though, the only defending of them should be about the initiatives or attempts the club has made to remove this element, ie, Brendan Rodgers speaking publicly about it last week.
That song wasn't sung for the first time at the weekend, it's been heard at Parkhead and other grounds along with the isis and ira songs.
Bringing other clubs into the thread is smoke and mirrors.

Look at what you've posted, "a few drunken idiots" against "thousands" at a Man Utd - Liverpool game, ergo Man utd and Liverpool have a bigger problem.

I wasn't insinuating that at all. I was talking about the video which was a few drunken idiots. I was also making the point that a lot of clubs have fans who sing distasteful songs, not just Celtic.

However, you are wrong to claim that the Rigby song and stuff about ISIS gets sung at Celtic Park. Not sure where you got that from, but it is total rubbish.

It was this sort of vile behaviour and the similar antics of the 'orange' wing of the other lot, that prompted my mum to have me following St Johnstone - even with me being a weegie brought up a literal stones-throw from Hampden Park. We had moved away from Mt Florida by the time it mattered and so never had any allegiance to 'the spiders' (QP).

I'm going on what's posted on the Celtic Football Forums were some Celtic fans admit to hearing the song sung at both home and away (Brentford) and always only by a few drunken idiots.

As I've said it's not the 99% decent fan I'm going on about and I agree every club has them, but the wheeling out of the "every club has them" answer every time there's an issue is not the way forward.

It may not be the answer but it is the truth.

Celtic fans have not covered themselves in glory here and are only another "political display" away from getting their club kicked out of Europe. The club seen he'll bent on finding the culprits and banning then which I applaud and think is the correct stance.

The club do however appear to have a reluctance to tackle the issues caused by " the green brigade".

That is up to Celtic Football Club and if they are happy paying fines to accommodate the nonsense then that's up to them.

Every club has idiots and morons. Celtic are just flavour of the month at present.

Brentford maybe - friendlies in England are all day piss-ups and the level of drunkeness has to be seen to be believed. I've been to a few in Manchester, Leeds and Newcastle, and it is unbelievable the state some fans get in.

Seriously doubt it has ever been sung at CP. I'm a member of the largest Celtic online community, and the condemnation has been overwhelming, anyone singing that at CP would get shouted down quickly.

Agreed, I live near Sunderland and there was just as many local idiots hell bent on causing trouble at the weekend, Sunderland don't have Celtic's profile and the media have no interest in defending Celtic.

Spot on apart from the reluctance to "deal" with the Green Brigade. Their section was closed for the last home game and also for the next one after the board took exception to a banner. It's has also been closed in the past, and anyone in that section who gets arrested at or near a game gets an individual ban until the court case, and a further ban if found guilty.

Token gesture, deal with it efficiently and permanently, an embarrassment to the club.

it seems that at least one of the offenders has been identified and his employer has suspended him (local authority contractor) good to see that some action has been taken and I am sure there will be more to follow.

From about 5 years I was up until maybe 6-7 years ago an avid fan of the hoops.

Problem I had was that going to park head, as a (then) serving member of the armed forces, was difficult at times.

Some of the stuff you would here for various parts of the terraces was embarrassing.

Don't follow them so much these days but that's more because I fell out of love with football as a sport really.

It's not everyone that joins in this crap but this particular chant is frankly despicable.

I will look out for results now but refuse to pay the money for terrible entertainment. Scottish football is a poor product.

As most will know I'm a Celtic fan and I find this disgusting and said so to mates of one of the guys filmed singing. Lee Rigby has no connection to Celtic, Rangers, Ireland or Catholics (these 4 subjects rightly or wrongly are what Celtic and the Rangers fans sing about) so why so called Celtic fans think it's right to sing about him is frankly shocking and they should hang their heads in shame.
Anti British mentality for the small % of fans, probably why they deem it justifiable to sing such a disgusting song

It wasn't a Sunderland fan who knocked him out, it was one of the EDL thugs who were lying in wait for the Celtic fans, he smashed him in the face with a baseball bat. The whole thing was a set up, and unfortunately some daft young lads fell for it hook line and sinker.
Lying in wait??? Maybe after being baited or not, who knows, Some "fans" went looking for trouble, smashed up a shop, threw fireworks inside and held the door closed, sang disgusting songs about a terrible incident. They found the trouble they went looking for and deserved what he got. Celtic should stop playing the victim card, they have just as many idiots and trouble makers as any other club yet they still try to pretend they don't. This time it's them that have been caught with their hand in the cookie jar and trying to defend it by saying but they done this and he done that is just trying to deflect the issue. Why are any other clubs even being mentioned in this thread? The excuses being made about it just being a small percentage of fans is the exact same one trotted out by all other clubs when there's a wee bit trouble at the game.

Good post
Sounds like Aberdeen fans are the latest to prove all clubs have an undesirable element....
Aberdeen have always had one of the worst undesirable elements following their club for years, but because they aren't Rangers or Celtic it's hardly ever reported.

Good post

The Aberdeen Casuals have always been a bit of a bunch - severe chip on shoulders - extreme even for Scots.
