Hi All,

I am moving to Monmouth next year, and thinking of joining Celtic Manor... I have seen some horror stories on the internet about 6 hour rounds etc, are there any current members that can give me some honest feedback on what its like being a member there, would they recommend ?

do you always get paired up if you're a two ball, and how long will a round roughly take, and any general feedback would be really helpful thanks !

All the best,

Scott

I played the Montgomery course on a Sunday afternoon about a month ago and it took 4 and a half hours. We didn't search for any balls and were in buggies. I suspect that is as quick as it gets, we weren't held up.

The obvious problem I'd see, apart from it gets hugely soggy, is that you will always come second to hotel guests. That would get annoying quite quickly I'd imagine, especially at the membership rates they charge.

I loved the course but personally I'd join a members club nearby and play Celtic Manor as a visitor.

Hi Scott

First question, why Celtic Manor?

Members are always second fiddle there as they make more money from hotel/golf packages. Times are reserved for member comps, other than that it is open house. My neighbour joined there a few years ago and is regretting it. It drains poorly too, although they've put in lots of new drainage on a few Roman Road holes, we'll see how that helps. No idea of your age, but both courses are a tough walk. They do make up 4 balls from smaller groups. I can't imagine why folk join there with better options locally.
.

I'm assuming you're not thinking about 2010 membership.

You've got Rolls of Monmouth on your door step. Not too far away are The Monmouthshire, Ross on Wye, Newport, St Pierre, and lower ranked Raglan and Monmouth.

Happy to answer any points over direct message or phone. Or have a game when you move in. Monmouth is a smashing little town and great surrounding countryside.

Thanks, I was considering that as an option, that really helps.

Thanks Ian, really appreciate that, might take you up on the game ! I looked at the Monmouthshire as an option online, looks lovely, looked at the Rolls of Monmouth as well, but wasn't sure if it might be a bit stuffy ? ( Moving from Surrey, had enough of that !
:)

Forgot to say, I like the setup there ( Been. couple of times to visit, but not play on the courses - Doesn't sound like it will be the best idea though. )
