I have never tried a cavity back wedge before. Are these preferable for the less experienced pitcher, or do they degrade the ability to control? I havent heard much regarding stock wedges, as everyone seems to want their vokeys etc. I currently have some Dunlop Nz9s which i would like to upgrade on.

Another thing, i wasnt into golf before they changed the ruling on grooves a few years ago (i dont know much about it). Is it still possible to purchase any non-tour conforming wedges or is this irrelevant?

My understanding is that any club manufactured since 2010 had to conform to the new groove specs, clubs manufactured before then may be used until 2024 (pro and elite amateurs excepted). You can purchase non-conforming wedges - on the 2nd hand market.

Cool. Any recommendations of wedges? Im a bit wary of buying used clubs because there are so many fakes out there. Any uk retailers who do good used deals?

I have hit relatively few wedges and therefore recommendations on my part would be guesswork tbh mate. In terms of second hand retailers, I like Golf bidder, accurate ratings on the condition of the club and good service:

Are there really? In over 20 years, I have seen very few really! And all those I can remember have been Drivers, though I know there are a few Scotty knock-offs available.

Another recommendation for Golfbidder as a place to buy for quality used kit!

If you get on with the NZ9s, there's no real need to upgrade. It's unlikely you will get huge amounts more spin with 'better' wedges. spin is more a function of technique than hardware. And the value of grooves is greatly exaggerated anyway - at least off the fairway.

My friend works for trading standards, and apparantly they get a lot of cases of fake clubs, but may just be a localised thing.

A few years back Cleveland Clubs were amongst the most widely faked brands. There were a lot of dodgy hybrids and wedges dong the rounds.
Much better these days though....

I watched a programme probably 12 months ago now and golf clubs are the most counter fitted goods on the planet apparently and Ebay was the biggest outlet for them... I've only ever bought new and from either AG, DG or the Belfry.

The programme also had knock off alcohol and cigarets but nope Golf clubs where top of the list surprisingly

Well, I've probably purchased over 250 Golf items through Ebay and never bought a Fake - and I'm pretty sure I can/could recognise one. so must be looking in the wrong area.

There are certainly plenty of easily recognisable websites selling, maybe not so easily recognisable, fakes though, so those may be the source.

Ping do some nice wedges with a small cavity back.
I'm a pretty good with my wedges and haven't noticed any lack of control/feel from using my Gorge's, in fact I prefer the feel to my old Vokey's.
The thing about golf clubs is that everyboby has different preferences. I, for example, really disliked the Cleveland wedges I tried, but some people love them.

Can't remember, it was on CH5 I believe. If I remeber right they had a guy on there who sells the fakes on ebay and he showed them a garage he had full of clubs that he had ready to sell. I was surprised it was no.1 aswell as I would have thought perfume, cigarets or alcohol would have been worse.
