My 1964 car is a dawdle to work on. No electronics or computers, no power steering or servo brakes, no ABS or traction control, just basic electrics and yet it produces 260+ bhp and is capable of 0 - 60 mph in under 5 seconds.

Kind of agree. Ran a 68 Rover P5B Coupe as my main car for 5 years, from 95-2000. It was a doddle to work on, and I coud fix almost anything on it. But, and it's a big but, it always needed something doing to it to get me to work on Monday.
Unless this age car has been totally restored, and is garaged, they aren't the most reliable. I guess, having seen pictures of yours, that it is both of these and more.
