Cardiff Sacking Malky Mackay

It's becoming another Chelsea situation. Who is going to want to manage a club when the manager is told one thing then another then another!

Care to explain that one further? Tan appears to be hated by a fair proportion of the Cardiff fans, unlike Abramovich and Chelsea fans, and we, unlike Cardiff, are still playing in blue. And whether you like Abramovich's policy on hiring and firing or not, you can't deny it has brought results.

Wonder if Delia Smith has a few bob on a heft away win tomorrow so she can afford to offload houghton and Buy Mackay before anyone else ;-)

I agree.gif

and...when everyone bleats on about how many managers we had, 3 of them were temporary assignments and they knew that at the time.

Gotta agree, the situations are totally different. The only thing about the abramovicj situation is that most (not all) fans seem to think you were destined for greatness if he hadn't come in.

There is something in that, Mathew joined us and invested 27m in Chelsea in 94 and started and backed Ken in the vision of what we have now and it hurts me to say, but, Hoddle was the initial instigator in our changes on the park as he brought in Gullet in 95 along with Mark Hughes. Hoddle and Gullets influence then brought Vialli (96), Zola (96) and then the ball just kept rolling with great signings. Mathews death is one of huge sorrow for Chelsea fans as he was one of us and protected us by forming the pitch owners plc for the fans where no individual owns or controls the stadium or pitch and it can't be sold to developers and his legacy is still their as the Village and the football are 2 very different business entity's. Abramovich didn't come on board until 2003 and during that period between Mathews investment and Abromovich coming we won 2 FA Cups, League Cup, Charity Shield, UEFA Cup Winners Cup and the UEFA Super Cup, so, the journey had already started and we became attractive to buyers, if it hadn't been Roman, it would have been someone else, simples.

not necesarily, Leeds were chasing Europe and arguably have a better pedigree than yourselves and yet nobody substantial came in for them. I'm not arguing that you were progressing. But without the big investment you got, your journey was about to take a completely different route. You had no money. Lampard was told he'd be sold and others would follow. You were playing on a beach. It could have been so different. I have no agenda here. As a Saints can, I've seen plenty of different owners in recent years and know it's all about timing and luck with the right one coming around eventually. Plus, without abramovich. The prem would have been a dull place. Even more UTD trophies and no mourinho (the best manager the prem has had, for sheer entertainment value at least).

I've been going since the late 1970's. I think Fish is right that the turnaround football-wise started with Hoddle, but it was finished off (if the story is correct) by the helicopter pilot that flew Abramovich over Stamford Bridge on his way from White Hart Lane as he was looking to buy Spurs. I think Papas1982 is correct, without that investment we were stuffed. Playing on a beach is a bit strong, mind; one game against Charlton. Villa Park was much worse on a regular basis.

One thing's for sure, as we walked out of Wembley in 1994 to the sound of the United fans, who had just won 4 - 0 complaining about the rain, we thought that we had just missed out on the reasonable limit of our potential. If you had told me then that in the following 20 years we would win 6 FA Cups, including the last at the old Wembley, the first at the new Wembley and one forming part of a Double, three Premier league titles including a successful defence, a UEFA Super Cup, a Cup Winner's Cup, a Champions League against all the odds in the opposition's back yard and a Europa League to become the only English club to have won all 3 major European competitions I'd have asked you what you'd been smoking. One hell of a journey, and not bad for a club with no history.

I agree that calling it a beach may be a bit harsh. I believe it was charlton that you beat on it. With them complainig about it affecting their style. I'm sure it had more impact on your footy than theirs. Villas has always been terrible, FA cup semi finals played there were shocking I the past. I heard the rumour about the helicopter flight so maybe something in there. As to your trophies, in the long run it'll look good saying you won the European trophies back to back, but you also set history being the first holders to go out. As they say, every dog has their day. I'm just hoping ours is in my lifetime! As for Cardiff. Wish their genuine fans well, but if you accept money off the devil, you gotta pay with your soul.....

Did I hear this morning that West Brom have pulled out of discussions with a prime candidate for their manager role - could we be seeing Malky Mackay as next WBA manager - don't see why not. Though would he want to go to WBA given what they themselves have done to Steve Clarke - in not dissimilar circumstances.

Managers don't seem to have any morals when taking a job that some one as been harshly sacked from. The only thing that may stop him taking the job is money & if it will affect his pay off from Cardiff.

One for us Jocks

It seems to me that Cardiff need a manager who can control thier tan, Jimmy Calderwood is the only option!

Aye Jimmy loves a good tan.

Apparently that was the plan, only way to get into the Europa & win that...... As regards your last comment re Cardiff, some would argue that it applies equal to us. Difficult to argue against and it has cost the club something in terms of the fans and support in the ground, but given the choice between that and extinction then there wasn't that much of a choice.
