A couple of months ago, during one of the those icy slippery morning, HID was getting the car out & it skid a bit and brushed the one of the car in the estate. Good work by her to quickly correct the slide, so the both cars got very minor scratches. I left a note on the car. He called back a week later and we agreed that he will go to the local chip repair/mobile repair and then let me know. Not expecting it to be more than say £200.

However, 2 months on, haven't heard a word from him. His car still has the scratch. Apparently he works long hours. I am tossing between calling him and telling him to fix it rather than waiting for him to accumulate another dent or so, but dont want to spoil relationship in the estate.. How long should I let it fester?

I'd probably leave it.
You've offered to pay, you've spoken to him - what more can you do?
If he can't/won't get it done then that's his problem isn't it?
Maybe he just can't be bothered if it's that minor.

It is minor.. but even a minor one shows up on a Red car + it is an Audi..

So I dont want him to wake up in 3 years before he wants to sell it and ask for a billion quid.

I agree with Imurg, you have offered to pay for the damage, he has agreed to let you do so. If he cannot be bothered to go then there is nothing you can do.

Speak to him and express your concerns, extensively photograph the damage, in case he still delays having the repair done, just in case it 'grows'.

You've done the right thing, left a note, offered to pay and he's not bothering to get it fixed, I'd leave it!!

Similar thing happened to me, i hit a car in a service station in the snow, the guy just wanted my mobile number!?

So 2 weeks after, "an insurer" called and asked for my reg number, and thats it. have not heard a dicky bird since! that was the 22nd Jan.. does his insurer/him have a time limit to make a claim?? ie 90 days after accident etc?

How would you feel if it was the other way round?

Just take a photo of the damage for proof.

Yup, agree I think i should do it, before it grows. If the Surrey Times has a story about someone shot trying to take a photo of a random car, then you know who it was...

I would have made a claim by now and followed it through??!! what point are you trying to make?

Asking if theres a time limit on claims suggests you might be hoping to negate your liabiity. I'm sure you are not, though someone did the very same to my sister and the phone no given was a mobile PAYG number which subseqently went dead. If you have admitted liability there is no time limit, though just swapping phone numbers is scarcely a great way of ensuring you are on the hook. However if there is CCTV at the petrol station its unequivocal . That said if chummy cany be bothered sorting it out its hardly your problem - sounds like a company car driver to me. Incidentally I wouldnt be giving any details to anyone over the phone unless I knew exactly who they were.

That's exactly what i am hoping for! if he cant be arsed, i do not lose any of my no claims!! I am not denying i hit him, and if the paperwork comes over will happily sign it all etc. just wondered how long it was until "i have got away with it!"

I dont think he was a co car driver, it was one of those 4x4 twin cab things. only dented his bumper and offered him to do the job privately, hey ho. see what happens. PS. I actually think he was a drug/arms dealer on a "pickup". he wanted to get rid of me so quickly and said he was waiting for someone (i wont mention he was a dodgy looking scouser, oops i just did)... that or he was dogging maybe..
